Wink Is there a "fat passenger" fault code?

so I picked up my friend from the airport yesterday(he is ~210lbs) and shoved his backpack into the trunk...

after one second gear pull(the IC was super heat soaked from sitting at a traffic light) I think I wash hitting limiter at ~6k

I took him up the mountain later and while not as fast as my typical trips I did manage to give him adrenaline sickness (and he rides super bikes and has an early 90s civic with a K swap thats faster(straight line) than my 240) tho once in the cooler air the car was back to its usual self... I might need to jump on the RLS group buy and get a decat

He has a really nice camera that records HD video and a HUGE memory card so I am gonna try to get a video of the hill "commute"

i'm pretty sure the limiter is only 6k until the car is warm. once up to temp, it should always rev to 8k. Even when heat soaked.

the car had been running for about an hour so I am fairly certain it was up to temp

the second gear pull I did went all the way out to 8

after that it wouldn't tho, I'm thinking maybe the knock sensor tripped and it went into limp mode?

could be a cam problem, might want to look into it, especially if there is no code.

Combined max weight limit of passengers & cargo is 500lbs , when you have a heavy passenger you will notice a big difference in performance and even cornering - 210lbs = - 21 HP . Did you have the car off for a while waiting at the airport ? They actually cool off pretty quickly. I drove and hour up to a weekend canyon run, had a quick 30 minute breakfast and as I pulled out to start the drive I floored it up a hill. The car hesitated a bit and was hitting the limiter and I was confused as hell. Then noticed I was not at temp yet ...... after a few minutes of driving all was good

he was waiting for me at the airport... car was at like 206 when I did the pull

Charlie... define cam problem, as in there is a solenoid issue switching the cams?

later last night while in the cooler mountain air the car was pulling hard as ever and I could perceive the switch... granted if you floored it right at 4k it would hesitate a bit(less than a second) but I think thats cause of the engine coping with TP change AND cam change

i'd say its just something to note if it happens again, there are a couple of issues that cause the light to flicker, but if it limits the engine as well and does not throw a code or having one pending, then more often than not its a problem with the cam switching, that itself has a couple of different problems, but again if no code its generally something mechanical with the cam itself, the lifters usually.

however i wouldn't worry too much, i'd just keep an eye on it and see if it happens again, or if you feel substantial power loss, there has been a few reports of phantom 6k limiters.

right so its engine limit with no code/light , so thats why i mention it might be a cam issue.

it does for excessive knock yes.

It's probably just the electrical going stupid, I've had my air not working once, another two times or so the rev limiter was on at 6k... just turn the car off, and turn it back on again - problem goes away

turned on and off many times...

tonight in third gear by myself if I floored it it would pull till 6k then sputter for a few seconds and then pull to 8

if it was a cam problem wouldn't it be kicking in at 4.2k with my foot all the way down?

It sputtered at around 6k? Can you elaborate? Did the throttle cut?

it sounds kinda like rev limiter just kinda gurgles and sticks at almost exactly 6k

but it only does it when it feels like it... it did it last night but not this morning

again by myself

heck i'd be throwing a "fat driver CEL" everyday if this were true.

all i know is, my ass fits comfortably in the seat and i can get in and out without a crane. though i always say, i'm probably as tall and as wide as you want to be for our cars
