Thanks Phil!

As soon as I get her all back together I will actually time it to see how long it takes. I can already tell you it won't be as fast as an Elise though...

What are you going to do about the side scoops? I didn't think about that on the Exige but that is something that will have to be disassembled before tilting the clam.

i just realized if you have the Saikou catch cans you'll have to undo the bracket from the engine lid strut base.

I'll probably look at some quicker fastners and just remove them. On the Exige it will probably be a 20-30min ordeal and require two people to lift and tilt (wife couldn't help with the tilting up, but could lowering it). The hatch and clam are just too heavy and bulky for one person to do it. I'm not exactly a stick figure either, so I don't think it's lack of strength.

In any case, 30mins to access the full engine bay is worth it to me. Will make the SC install alot easier, and was probably tons easier putting on the new headers. Removing the lower diffuser and rear panel are quick as well for those that change out exhausts and de-cats.

And just for the record it only took 2.5hrs to remove the clam so I could get started on the project. Most of that time was the interior removal and that damn harness bar (mounts like oem bar). All in all a good weekends work taking it slow and multi-tasking.

I successfully installed Phil's tilting clam to my 2006 Elise this past weekend. This is a most excellent addition and worth every penny.
It was one part of an extensive weekend of repairs and upgrades following my May collision at VIR.

I drove my car on Monday for the first time in over two months!
I sure did miss her. I can't wait to get back to the track.

i expect to read the instructions before i send money.
i wouldn't mind paying a modest fee for a copy if anyone would make one.
or, if i could see an installation...
i really don't like to buy something i've seen very little of.

Are you kidding?
Do you go to Sears and ask to open a box so you can see the instructions? Phil has done a wonderful job here and numerous Mokes like myself have installed his kit in their garages. "You are in or you are out. No one should send this guy the instructions. Let him figure it out for himself like the rest of you..... I don't think Phil will loose any sleep over it..

Clam hinge installed on my '05 Aspen White with 2bular single-tip:
Had to trim the rear panel for the exhaust tip to get through.
Retaining cable is shorter by an inch or two to keep the clam from resting on exhaust tip.
Small mods I had no problems with.

This kit is excellent.

Install looks great. How were you ever willing to invest the $$ without ever having read the instructions??

Why are you getting so worked up?

Asking to read the instructions is a perfectly reasonable request and is an approach I have used before buying many DIY style mods. After all you need to decide if you have the skills and tools needed to do the job.

Are any of you guys with this mod installed going to be at LOG? I really want to see one of these kits in action (and no, I won't ask to see the instructions.....)

Sorry....Just sounds like a weird request to me. "Send me the instructions that you paid for(without seeing them first) so I can decide if I want to lay out the cash"

Don't worry too much about the trimming Go ahead and "fettle" as Ted did for now. We redesigned the rear panel and opened it up an add'l 3/4" which should clear up that "fettling" issue for the larger exhaust tips. I'll send you guys the revised panels when they're done, which will be on the next batch... Probably still another month or so out on those though... Atleast you're up and tiliting in the meantime

Best,

Phil

If you read the post it sounds like he is afraid of getting a sub par product. He said nothing about his level of install expertise..
A "modest fee"? Please..
Says he wants to see an installation, well so far I have seen a good number of really nice installs on this thread.
