Tire Question?

[D&G lotus]

I have a 2006 elise with the sport pack and am in need of some new tires. i was browsing tirerack.com and found several different tires. i was wondering if any of the tires below would work for the car or if i should stick with the AO48'S. I do not track or autocross the car just some light spirited driving. here is a link. Thanks, Randy

Eh, have you even tried a search on the forums? This has been discussed plenty o times.

Anyways, from such a search you'll find the Goodyear Eagle F1-D3 are a good choice. Generally people go with 195/45/16 for front and 235/40/17 for the rears. I did.

Your tire listing is just too much, from threadwear 60 to 400.

It is quite simple, you need to select the tire for your application, and 60 threadwear is a track tire. A 380 threadwear is like a cruising tire. And 180-220 are a good compromise on street, and can be a good track tire for a slow driver. With the Neova, I was able to be faster on track than many other poeple with Toyo RA1 or equivalent.

My, I really liked the Neova OEM tire, but it wears out just too fast for my everyday using. But if you were happy, stick with them, nice compromise.

Now I am using Dunlop Direzza DZ101 195/50-16 and 235/45-17. The threadwear 300. I think that a threadwear higher than that can be bad on the Lotus since the traction is already a lot less than Neova. This tire is just very bad on track, but on street they work great on rain, a lot better than Neova. Plus my car is equipped with Nitron Pro suspension (very stiff spring), and the tire are more confortable but the thread is producing a small vibration.

It is a question of money, and application. Me I have a set of Hoosier R6 for the track, and the cheap Dunlop fot the street, where it is a lot of cops on my area.

You've got a lot of listings, but preferably I like the Dunlop SP since I got used them way back six months on my tire installation. Or the other one, the UTQG.

putting crappy tires on an elise is like watering a plastic plant "it don't make no sence"

My sudgestion for good all around max performance summer tire Bridgestone RE01r 205/40/16 and 245/40/17. There is tons posted on these so do a search....

I would suggest putting on Nitto NT-01's.

I just put a pair on the rear and I love them. Great grip and aggressive tire pattern. I found them to feel more stable during cornering than the A048's were. Not sure about life as of yet, but I got 13k out of the Yoko's, thus think I should get at least 10k from the Nt-01's.

Cannot comment on the R888's but I hear they are better than the A048's as well.

When my fronts need to be replaced I will go with the R888's for the front, but will most likely stick with the NT-01's for the rear (they also cost less then the A048's and the R888).

Get the Bridgestone tires. Me I found they are the best tire and that's after running many tires on many cars. It offers daily driving comfort and good for spirited tires. I don't know how well they do after being heat cycled a few times. But the Dunlop Direza's are pure junk when they heat cycle. One saving grace is they last a long time.

Seen as I run dedicated track tires, I tried some General Exclaim UHP's on the rear just for test purposes. (Figured I'd chew them up as rain tires on my STi if I didn't like them on the Elise) There is so much handling ability in this car that I'll never use on the street I decided to try to get rid of the crashing hard Yoko AD07 casings. Mission accomplished. Yes they were a little squirrelly for the first few hundred miles esp with all my camber, but all it took was an extra 2 psi and break in and now the ride is excellent, much less tire noise, thrum and crash over rough roads,, plenty of handling for the street, best tire I've ever run in the rain, CHEAP, and yes, I am in the process of buying 2 more for the front!!n Not quite as good as the REAL surprise Sumitomo's I put on the STi earlier this summer, but unfortunately, no front fitments I liked. I'm not into screwing with the OD and need to run 195/50R16's to fit my base rims on the street!! Now if I can only figure out how to transport 4 tirs inside to the track, I'll have rain and dry covered esp when I finally sell my STi!!
