Maybe so, but if I recall correctly Lotus' recommended setup procedures are referenced to half a tank.

The Sector 111 spyder (RIP) and that stripped down car by ForcedFed are also 16xx lbs I believe. So it's possible to get it into the 16xx again, but the diet is quite drastic.

I am currently building a Elise race car . I havent weighted all that has been removed but I think I'm getting close to 250 Lbs . That includes everything that is unnecesary on track heater ,a/c , windows ,airbags ,instaling lexan windshield.........
What surprised me the most was weight of exaust . With different headder and carbon fiber exhaust you can save close to 50 lbs . Things like seat brackets about 10lbs made mine out of aluminum . Of course A/C about 40 lbs . Windows about 15 lbs , Replacing windshield another 15 or so , stereo -10 ,airbags -10 ,racing battery 15 lbs .... Once you get to oz ,list goes on and on .
I am still working on it so haven't weighted it , but guessing low 1700 . To go further you have to start changing brake disks ,wheels , carbon clams .......
Since its for track removing weight is crusial , but I definately would'n recomend doing anything like this to a street car whats the point car is pretty light as it is and making it 50 or 100 lbs lighter not going to make that much difference on street .
These are just rought numbers .If enyone interested in weight of certain parts I can tell exact . Have most of them sitting in my garage .

Curious on the passenger airbag weight. Have it handy?

Thanks,

I have to dig it up from somewhere. Also the 2 oil coolers add another 22 lbs or so. (don't know if that's each or both).

[quote=fitfan;1003412]i tihnk lotus's mentality is more like

"to stay in business we need to grow and add new models and we need to sell more cars to pay for new models - so what do we do to sell more cars?"

This sort of thinking led Porsche to build the Cayenne. Not necessarily wrong, but the entire Porsche lineup has moved away from the elemental sports cars they one were to the current crop of supremely capable, but, alas, boring, GT cars. I traded my 06 Cayman S for my Exige because the Cayman just didn't feel unique or special. Eyes closed in the Cayman, I could have imagined myself in any of a number of other cars. The Exige cannot be mistaken for anything else.

I was hoping to tabulate all the additions to the that are not in the UK S2 version

Like engine trans 100lbs
Airbags 12lbs
Door hinges + Other ???
ABS ???
A/C 22lbs
Oil Coolers 22lbs
<O</O
My understanding is were looking for about 250lbs worth of stuff, and compared to the price were paying in aftermarket pound reduction. Also seeing the two Elise’s that I know of that have had some “Spdyder like” modifications there really struggling to get to the 1600lb mark. Just 100lbs less than the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<ST1lace </st1:country-region>version and they’ve done the wheels, battery exhaust and brakes, GLASS! Some advantages that the UK<ST1Elise does not have.

I've looked at using electric AC (from a Hybrid) but they use a 201V AC (rather than DC) motor, at more amps than you'll ever get from a non-battery pack vehicle.

The AC is actually fairly light:

AC 21.419 lb
- compressor 8.758
- rear hoses 2.2
- front lines 0.6
- dryer 1.351
- evaporator 3
- condensor 4.3
- refrigerant 1.21

Oil coolers 17.474 lb + oil
- oil coolers (2) 3.295 lb
- oil cooler mount (2) 0.6295 lb
- interconnection hose 1.625 lb
- feed/return hoses 4 lb (est)

Transmission (open diff, incl oil, no slave) 91.23 lb

When I weigh all the bits of the car and then the total car I come up about 97 lbs short. There is a lot of weight in bits and pieces that Lotus has added to the car (in haste and cheaply, by the looks). eg look at the radiator mounts - heavy steel with captured nuts (I mounted my radiator on aluminum mounts), the horn bracket (again, steel), multifunction relay mounting plate, the multifunction relay box itself (replaced with relays), extra unnecessary battery cable (removed 8 feet), wire running to the front of the car and then back (eg the ac clutch). Then I guess Lotus did save weight by using parcel tape to mount the radio antenna and duct tape to secure the rear clam wiring, along with about 150 cable ties in the engine bay.
