He laughs, I laugh.
Him: How does that thing drive?
I answer: Best driving experience hands down.
Him: I always loved those cars. Good to know you enjoy it. Well, I'm gonna make a right right here so you don't have to go slow. You take it easy now.
I smile and say my thanks and good night.
He turns, light changes to green... I go WOT through 1st gear and then cruise... Great end to a great night.

Nicest cop I've ever met.

Oh, got the does Ford make Lotus question today. First one in a year.

It's nice to come across a nice cop who is an enthusiast. I've only had it happen once when I had my M3. A cop pulled up next to me at a light and honked his horn to signal for me to roll my window down. I was thinking, uh oh what did I do now. And he asks me where I got the spoiler on my car. I told him it was a factory one and he said he has been looking for that kind for his 328 for a long time and asked me if I wanted to swap trunk lids with him. LOL

Shopping mall parking lot... I pass a 5-year old boy and his mom as I'm crawling over a series of speedbumps at 5 MPH

Boy: Is that a race car Mommy?
Mom: (turns to look at car)

Maybe not such a bad idea on the 4th of July...

Our Elise and the Peach Festival Parade

My assistant asked me to enter my Elise in the July 4 Lexington County Peach Festival Parade in sleepy little Gilbert, SC. Hey, what the heck, it's their 50th anniversary and registration was free!

Elisewidow and I arrived at the parade staging area and parked in our assigned spot.

We were immediately surrounded by admirers asking the usual Lotus questions, which we enjoy. After several groups of oglers left, a very nice gentlemen in his 60's from the float in front of us approached and expressed his life-long admiration for all things Lotus. He grew up in northern England, had always been a fan, owned a restored Triumph, but had a life-long yearning to own a Lotus.

So I suggested, "Meet us after the parade and we'll go for little ride."

After the parade (see my wife's separate post), we met up in the parking lot and took off down a country road for a little fun

We pulled into a big empty parking lot of a mega-church so I could demonstrate the potential of the car in a relatively safe environment.

Let's just say he now knows what Lotus handling is all about.

For 15 minutes I watched this gentleman turn back into a little boy! He was hooting and hollering and had a blast - and so did I!

I LOVE this car!!

Peach Festivall part deux

...here are some funny/random comments from the crowd!

Scary old dude from the John Birch Society tries to warn of us the "underground" movement to make a "North American Union" where the US will lose its sovereignty. But, he liked the car so it's all good!

One little boy said "that's wrong, your engine goes in front! So do you put your stuff up there(pointing to front clam)?"

-boy in the HS band "hey look, a Porsche!" his friend "that's a LOTUS, not a Porsche!"

-little kid who obviously plays Gran Turismo "HEY, that's MY car!"

-funny little old lady in the back of a pick up watching parade...
leans toward me and says
"Ok, this is the part where YOU get out and I get in!"

LOTS of silly peoples yelling "burn it out!"

I jokingly said "only if you buy new tires!"

It was fun...oh yeah, this was a 4th of July event afterall, so someone let us use a little US flag to tape in the center behind the seats...

Here's the website in case you ever find yourself in SC on the 4th

Redneck nod of approval

While at the gas station, a guy in his mid 60's dismounts from his F250.
He checks out the Lotus and tells me: "Well, that's one fun little f*cker."

4th of July car show this morning. I swear at least thirty different people reacted with complete and utter astonishment that my steering wheel was laying on the dash. I mean seriously these people were just dumbfounded that such a thing existed. One lady dropped her purse while an accidenta' "oh my god" slipped from her lips. Her husband turned around to see what was wrong and she pointed speechless to the quick release hub. The husband's jaw dropped, they both stood there drooling for about five seconds before the guy says to his wife, "It must be some new Japanese gimick." That's word for word.

Okay I understand you don't have one in your Camry. I understand perhaps you don't come across them that often in life. But if you're a car guy you've got to at least have seen such a thing. Never watched one NASCAR race on television in your life? Come on people!

I was driving in Cape Canaveral and some guys in a truck next to me asked if I could turn my car into a submarine. I guess they were engineers that worked at the Space Center and thought that I had a Squba.

while eating at subway, i hear one of two gentlemen who just got out of a work truck tell the other "it's just a Corvette wannabe."

at a stop light a man and his son cross the road in front of me. the man asked "what kind of car is that?" i replied "lotus." his comment then was "i'd rather have a maserati." i said "OK."

a man in a pick-up truck stopped next to me at a red light.
him: "what kind of car is that?"
me: "lotus."
him: "that's my favorite car."
WTF? if it's your favorite car, wouldn't you be able to recognize it without asking the driver what it is?

today i got my first "who makes it?" question after telling a driver in the car next to me that "it's a lotus."

Maybe it just became his favorite car at that moment?

Nothing impolite, although I fear my tone of voice was becomming exasperated towards the end.

it must be my lucky day. after dinner and fireworks at a local restaurant i got two more great comments/questions:

a mom said to her two sons "look guys, it's a ferrari."

some dude asked "hey...is that one of them electric cars or something." one would think that the running engine, exhaust fumes, and the tail pipes would have given that one away but i guess not.

That's because it became their favorite car the moment they saw it.

Took a nice drive up HW89 today from Phoenix to Prescott, Jerome and Sedona.
While driving back home at a gas station takin a leak, this guy starts to walk in the store and says to his son "Look son, a cool car" and the kid goes "Yea dad just like the last one..." as they walk in and the dad is still looking over his shoulders as I got in.

Getting gas in Sedona I am filling up and a guy in a minivan goes "Man thats what I wanted, but had to settle for this..."
Me: Oh kids huh?
Him: Yea, unfortunately.
I kinda snickered and said it can't all be bad, and he asked a few questions about the motor, MPG, etc.
