Scene – Parking lot of the local Safeway last Saturday, sunny afternoon around 4 pm. Me wearing old tee shirt, shorts, sunglasses and flip flops getting out of my 2008 Elise SC that I’ve only had for three weeks.

Girl 1 short brown hair about twenty something wearing shorts and a bikini top. Girl 2 Blonde medium lenght hair, wearing jeans and a tee shirt with no bra. I know for a fact shes not wearing a bra.

Girl 1 “is that your car? Cool What is it?”
Me “ It’s a Lotus Elise and thanks I think it’s cool too”
Girl 2 leaning into the car to take closer look “Wow its tight in there….you broken it in yet? Prolly hard to do it in there”
Girl 1 “Well if he was sitting in the passenger seat and I sat forward on his lap sorta reverse cowgirl you could do it.”
Girl 2 “ No way”
Girl 1 “Way”
Girl 2 “Have you done it in it yet?”
Me “No” (pretty snappy answer under the circumstances I think)
Girl 2 “Are ya gonna?”
Me “ Didn’t buy it for that”
Girl 1 “ Don’t mind her she’s never done it in car like that”

Girl 2 “Take me for a ride?”
I ponder for a moment the idea and consider that driving around in an Orange Lotus Elise with a blonde who is NOT my girlfriend is about as inconspicuous as driving around in a flying saucer so I say. “Maybe later”.
Girl 1 “ You should take her for a ride…shell prolly do ya”
Me “GULP”
Girl 2 “Shut UP you prolly would too you’re such a skank”
Girl 1 “You shut up”
Girl 2 “Can I sit in at least so Lauren can take my picture?
Me “Sure” so I open the door and Girl 2 gets in very awkwardly as Girl 1 (Lauren) gets her cell phone out to take a picture.
Girl 2 as shes sitting in the car ‘ Wow…theres more room in here than it looks so I could do it in here…with the roof off.”
Me ‘It would be hard with the roof on…it would have to be topless”
Girl 2 looking up at me “It has to be hard and I promise I’d be topless”
Then she hauls up her tee shirt and flashes me and Girl 1 (Lauren) who snaps her picture.

I hope I don't get the same reaction when I show the car to my mom.

Even through college the lotus in no way shape or form opened any doors for me. In all honesty, it's opened WAY more doors in the business world than it ever has in terms of the love life. I can't count the number of business cards I've got from some pretty affluent individuals to give them a call and get lunch simply because they liked the car. Sure, girls will like the car, but it's never really gotten me anywhere.
