In San Diego, apparently the word of the day is "sick".

i.e.:

"That car is sick!"

"That's sick, dude!"

"Sick ride, man!"

"Whoa! Sick!"

This one is kinda wierd. I was at Academies buying flip flops. As I was returning to my car, I noticed a van parked next to it. A family of like 8 were climbing out of the van and just staring. I went to my car, and nobody said a word. They were just staring. Needless to say, I was pretty uncomfortable and didn't really say anything. I climbed into my car and waited for the area to clear so I can pull out. The family of 8 just lined up between their van and my Lotus just standing there\. Since the parking lot was somewhat busy, it took me about a minute to finally pull out of my space. This whole time they were all just standing there for a full minute not uttering a word!

Just say "hi" (with a smile). It won't hurt anyone, and it usually breaks the ice. Maybe they'll say something funny or stupid...

On the way home from MSR today someone pulled up next to me as we were both on the highway and yelled, "What does your dash say?" Taken off guard... I just did not know what he wanted to know... I wanted to reply, "1/2 full", but instead I replied, "What?!". He repeated himself, and it finally dawned on me what he wanted. Well, I am not going to yell the full story out the window (well, it is limited yada yada) so I just yelled back, "180!" He and his wife gave me the thumbs up and pulled away.

Yesterday at Star Motor Cars in Houston.

I was standing in the showroom of the Lotus dealership. (Actually, I was sitting in an Exige S, taking it all in )

And some middle-aged man, his wife, and their daughter come in, looked from the Exige to the Elise (Exige is BRG w/yellow stripes, Elise is Yellow California Ed) and the wife says, "Now those look like little race cars"

Husband says "They look like little bugs"

They asked for directions to the Aston dealership, and left.


Also, while on a test drive of a red Elise SC - passed some 'badazz' in his late model F body Camaro SS, (black with orange stripes) He was rollin hard - sleeveless shirt, backwards cap, the works. Anyway, as I pass by going in the opposite direction, I was delighted to see his girlfriend stop talking to him, and crane her neck around to stare at the Elise as I went by.

Well, it finally happened.

Driving around aimlessly tonight I hit a rather large pothole, only to hear a loud pop. So i pulled over to a gas station to check and make sure everything is fine. There is a car full of girls there getting ready to leave, they look over smile and drive off.

I finish checking out the car and all is well and leave. On my way home about 5 lights later I come across the same car full of girls. They roll down their window at the next light to make the usual comments. A few more lights and they catch up to me and the driver says "She has something to show you!"

My passenger: OK!
Me: Nan da yo!?

I look over and the girl in the passenger seat is flashing us.

I took the Esprit out for a drive last weekend to go to the bank and Walmart. I had my Lotus baseball cap on and while checking out at Walmart the guy behinds me asks me if I have a Lotus? I answer yes. And then the Guy tells his wife (very softly) I bet it is an Elise and not a “really Lotus” she whispers something back and says “we will see.”

In the parking lot, I pull out of my parking spot and as I pass them… his mouth drops wide open and I asked them what was the bet? All he says is “it’s an Esprit V8.” The wife smiles at me and says thank you!
