maybe he meant that since the engine is being used more on just the elise/exige, that it was quite popular and is a great workhorse of an engine

Me and the gf went to Rita's the other night, it was a really nice day so there were around 20-30 people in line, half of which were kids. Obviously the cell phone cameras came out, because evidently every 6-10 year old has one nowadays. Even the girl at the window asked me if i'd mine taking her camera, walking over to the car, and taking picture for her since she couldn't come outside, which i did. So we get the ice, head back over to the car and sit down next to it. One boy in particular had the guts to come over by himself and said, "Excuse me sir, is this your car?"

Me: Yep
Kid: "Would you mind if I took a few pictures of it with my phone?"

Now at this point, I was feeling unusually generous, most likely because it was refreshing to meet a kid with a decent set of manners. I'm a sucker for that because my parents were sticklers about it when i was growing up. Please/thank you's for everything.....

Me: Why don't you sit in it and I'll take a picture of you with your phone?
Kid: (pause as his eyes light up).......ummm ok

The gf started choking on her ice cream when she heard me offer that, because she knows that i don't let anyone even breathe on the car, let alone touch it. She started smiling as I helped the kid into the car, careful not to kick anything. The kid was soooo nervous-he looked like he just got pulled over-both hands cemented on the steering wheel, hands at 10/2 o'clock and his eyes plastered straight ahead, glazed open LOL.

Me: Do something cool! You have to show this to your friends! Give me the thumbs up or something!

So the kid gives the thumbs up, i take the picture and i help him back out of the car. A few thank you's later he runs back over to his mom and everyone was smiling and crowding around the kids camera. I think i made his day.

Yesterday I went to fill up with gas and had the following conversation with the bitter 25+/- year old attendant:

Him: That car is so freakin tiny

Me: I know, I wish it was even smaller.

Him: "You will die if you get into an accident".

Me: You wouldn't want to live if you got into an accident with this car anyway.

Him:

Me: What kind of car do you drive?

Him: Cadillac

Me: Very nice.

At this point a Mustang Gt with 4 teenagers pulled up to the gas station and ran over to my Elise and started screaming cool car, thats awesome and starting taking pictures. I would be surprised if he gets that kind of attention when he drives his caddy.

Two BIG black Mama's in a Ford Explorer:

One says to the other, "Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!" as I drive slowly by in the opposite direction.

Just trying to imagine them both in the Elise

3 things yesterday:

1. "A**hole!" (I was sitting in a parking space, waiting for someone, minding my own )
2. "That's like something from a videogame!"
3. I went to visit my family yesterday. I parked out front. Across the street, there's a school and playground. A pack of kids sat across the street. Everytime one of my family members either came our went through the front door, they'd start yelling stuff. I think I remember "I like your Lotus" and "Hey, nice car!" My mother didn't know what to say, so she just said "Thank you."

I got my car washed by the highschool girls' Lacrosse team today (to support them) and they said two things I thought were funny, not directed at me, but to each other:

"It's so tiny, it's like a remote control car!" and... "My knees hurt from having to bend so low to the ground!"

Last week I had a couple guys pull up next to me and start asking the usual questions.

them: What car is that man?
Me: Lotus
them: Is it European made?
Me: UK...(then after their questioning look): England
them: How Much?
Me: 'bout 50
at this time they start talking to each other excitedly and finally pull up to the car in front of them.

Best part was, the whole time there was an Enzo sitting behind me and they never even took a look at it. I'm guessing they missed it since it was black and they had already locked onto my yellow, but the guys in the Enzo behind me were chuckling the whole time.

FedEx Guy = mid 20's
Me = mid 20's

FE: You pull up in that red car?
Me: Yep
FE: Is that a...uh...uh...uh...a Lotus?
Me: Yep....good eye. Not many people know.
FE: That car is HOT! Them 20s?
Me: No....17s.
FE: I gotta ask...what do you do for a living?
Me: Gov't Contracting
FE: ....anyway, awsome car.

That's silly. I had my wife with me when we used one of those cheerleader-need-new-uniform-parking-lot-carwash things. What difference would it make? I mean, unless you're running around pinching their butts or something?

Oh I'm excited to finally have something for this thread, although it's pretty lame:

Setting: Sonic

Car Hop: What kind of car is that?
Me: It's a Lotus.
Car Hop: What's it run on?
Me: Uh... Huh?
Car Hop: Does it run on gas?
Me: Oh... Yes.
Car Hop: Well what's so special about it?
Me: Uh... Huh?
Car Hop: I mean is it just a small car?
Me: Huh? Yes, sure, it's a small car.
Car Hop: Oh okay. Have a nice day.

Not funny, really, but it just struck me as cool considering the location and the age group:

Location: Car wash in the middle of a not-so-great neighborhood.

As I'm drying off the Elise, a teenager about to vacuum out his lowered and riced-out Acura Integra says, "Hey man! Nice Lotus!"

And that was it. I was pleasantly surprised by his lack of gibberish, ego or over-zealousness. Clear, concise and relatively mature.

I was out on a walk with my wife yesterday, and one of the neighbors commented about my orange jacket matching my car. Apparently, the whole neighborhood knows me as the guy with the orange car.

Anyway, she informed me that here daughter (about 5 years old) just loves my car, especially sine her middle name is "Elise".

I love to hear the stories about letting kids sit in the car. It really brings a smile to them, and is something that they will remember for a long time.

2 from the Ojai group drive last weekend.

#1. Before meeting at SilverStar we stopped in a shopping center. As I was getting in my car an old lady that must have been about 75 or older was getting into her Volvo right next to me but stopped and walked over. I was expecting the usual old lady "what a cute little car". Nope she says " You know I used to race an Elite when I was a young woman, I love this new styling ." I asked if she still had it and she said " No but we do have a Ferrari now " I talked to her a bit more, wow I was floored, she must be a great grandma to have !

#2 Leaving the restaurant in Ojai, A man sees the large tow hook in the front of one of the Exige and asks " Is that the cup holder ? " He was joking but I thought it was funny.
