Its because the key fob has the button to disable the immobilizer which engages after the car is sitting for a few minutes

Well this just happened about 10 minutes ago. Got home from dinner with the family, driving in my neighborhood and some highschool kids were throwing a house party and they were in the streets as I drove by. Heard some yelling as I went by, I proceed down the street and turn into my street and park in the garage. I walked inside for a second and came out to get my laptop and see about 6-7 kids coming up and asking if it was mine.

They were very polite surprisingly, so I told them to check it out. The initial 6-7 became about 10-15 in a couple minutes .

One fella was very knowledgeable about cars (though not about the elise). Had some good questions about the cars, then the usual "What do you do" "Are you even out of college" ect. No "How much does it cost" surprisingly..

The fob energized the engine immobilizer part of the factory alarm.

I was the victim of an attempted carjacking once (back when I had my Forester). Until you're actually faced with the situation, you can't say for sure how you'd react. I talked back, cussed at the would-be carjacker, and refused to hand over my keys. And there was nothing intimidating about me; it was after a night at the bars (no, I wasn't drunk), and I was in a tube top and stilettos at the time.

I was in a Walgreen's parking lot on Sunday, rearranging a bunch of presents in the boot so I could fit a couple of boxes of Christmas lights in when I hear a lady a few spots over say "Is that a mini-Corvette?"
I said, "No, it's not a Corvette."
She said "What is it?"
I said "A Lotus."
She had a confused look on her face and closed her door.

I wouldn't have taken the time to explain /prove it. It's not worth it. I'm 23, drive an Exige, and don't give doubters or haters a second thought. I'm also too young to rent a car most places

He then said, "Gee, I bet you wish you owned that car when you were younger". Ouch.

He made the mistake of putting a physical barrier (the car) in between him and me. We got into a tug-o-war with my purse, but the strap broke and he won. Luckily, I had my cell phone, keys, DL, and credit cards in my pocket. He made off with one credit card and my favorite lipstick.

Best part of the verbal exchange:

And then he pulled out a knife. That's when he decided to go for my purse instead. But if anyone up to that point had presented me with that scenario as a hypothetical, and asked me what I would do in the situation, I probably would have told you I'd just give him the keys.

Needless to say, the officer I spoke to was NOT amused with my line of defense. Even worse, he was the same officer who had responded when I called in a report of vandalism (smashed windshield and a flat tire) to the same car a month or two before them. And yes, he did remember me...

At a local Lotus owners' gathering, I used the host's bathroom to urinate. (lots of coffee)

When I came out, the gentleman waiting outside the bathroom door said, "Boy, you have a large bladder!"

I did not respond.

Had a 1st date with a lovely woman tonight.

She saw the Elise (i.e. not raining out) and said, only partly jokingly, that the car probably was too small to be safe.

Later, she told me she rode motorcycles, or - as they're know in NJ - donorcycles.

I'd installed some wires to interior fuse box to power additional power outlet (for Garmin), radar detector and some other stuff.

They were tucked up out of the way, i.e. less vulnerable.

Somehow, she managed to knock them loose with her shoe, disabling some devices.

I laughed; this is easy to fix.

She laughed and said "Your car is too small!"

Me: "Or, your feet are too big..."

She thought that was very, very funny...

The mirrors are not body colored as they came standard in Matte Black on the 2011 Elise SC Final Edition. Also in Matte Black with this Final Edition are the hard top, roll bar cover, and transom panel.
