McLaren and other small-volume producers have solved this. Given the smarts of the Lotus engineers, and at least some financial backing from DRB Hicom, and the size of the US market, is it really conceivable that they can't figure this out? Put somebody else's seats and airbag modules in the d_mn car and bring it over! I know I am oversimplifying this, but still. Isn't their some Ford/Honda/Vauxhall parts that can be smushed in there somehow? It's not exactly like the current Elige interiors are ergonomic works of art. And, a little more weight versus the V6 would seem to be a pretty reasonable sacrifice. I think a lot of us would be willing to get a new Lotus, but a) you can't now except for an Evora - and I want a removable top; and b) why would you have in the past, when there was almost no difference between a 2005 and a 2011? A new engine would be a definite motivator for me.
Are you talking about Morgan or Lotus?

You can't just put someone elses airbag modules, airbags, and seats into the car and expect them to work. Airbag systems are carefully designed, built, calibrated to work properly in a specific vehicle application. And while I'm fairly sure it is not expensive (in the grand scheme of the automotive industry), I'd imagine it still would cost many millions of (units of money) to accomplish this task.

Since the car would sell only a hundred or so units per year in the US, Lotus might never be able to fully recoup the cost of that safety modification with the sales profit generated.

I thought the strategy was to counter Bahar's lawsuit against Lotus. If Lotus can demonstrate Bahar defrauded the company, then he doesn't have much of a case for wrongful termination.

That's what I thought too counter suits put pressure for both sides to settle.

God the new S is hot! Earlier this year I sold my Elise for a Cayman S, but I think if the S came here I would be back in a Lotus. The thing just looks killer.

You mean the Exige S or the Evora S? How's the Cayman S treating you? I was contemplating the Cayman R but couldn't pass up the Evora S's looks and exclusivity.

Sorry, V6 Exige S. It's tops in the looks department for me and would be seriously quick.

The Cayman S has been great so far. Not quite as sharp or chuckable as the Elise, but much better in other ways. I much prefer the engine sound, interior quality, and shifter action of the Cayman (which were my biggest gripes with the Elise) but I do miss the go-kart like feeling and forward view out of the Elise. Nothing like the forward sight lines out of that car. Definitely a special experience that I miss.

Wish I could have one of each, but that's not an option for me.
