Wood Block Vs. Exige......Block +1 (56K no way)

Little bugger beat the snot out of my baby. Luckily everything seems OK as far as suspension, drivetrain, and cooling is concerned. Was only able to recover 1 of 2 missing NACA ducts.

I was on the way to the bank to get cash out of savings to buy new tires for a HPDE I was to attend on Sept 15 & 16. I bet you can probably tell how that will turn out.

Alot of body damage obviously, but man I don't know....it looks like it will be very expensive. I've only had her 6 months so I probably still owe like $45K.

I came out from behind a car and there it was just sitting in between the two lanes. I didn't have time to safely get on either side, so I just straddled her and hoped for the best.....impact wise I think this was the best that could have happened. I think this would have torn up the suspension pretty bad and possibly caused me to loose control.

***Update***
Got the official estimate.

Parts alone were $15,000....that included almost $900 for freight shipping. That included a new chassis and some other under panels and stuff.

The rough estimate I was given by the body shop about 2 weeks ago was around $35K total including labor....but they have never actually done one so again just an estimate on the labor part.

***Update 2***

Finally some closure after 8 weeks.

Adding this more for reference for others that will go through the same thing.

The Good

Insurance gave me $48K and some change for the car, which is a reasonable amount, and is more then I owe. I was hoping for NADA value, which would have been around mid to low 50's. But this is a realistic amount.

The Bad

Buy back price for the salvaged car is $18K, which is alot more then I was expecting (and hoping) based off what you guys said here. However, I think it is reasonable, because I know the car could sell for that much on Ebay (and probably will ). Though I go back and forth about keeping it.

Insurance Provider: Nationwide

Ouch. I hit a piece of wood that fell off a truck and my ins company said if there is any damage to the undertray that would require replacing, it would most likely be a salvage. Good luck and hopefully it turns out for the better for you.

Yes, luckily it kind of bounced more on the drivers side and from the looks of it, that hole may be smack dab in the empty space between the oil pan and the tranny. I'll wait for the insurance adjuster to come out and look at it before I remove anything.

And ya, I went back and found that wood son of a bitch....I looked back and saw that thing probably bouncing up 15' feet in the air behind me. Trophy! I thought it was a piece of metal from the impact....I was suprised when I saw a block of wood. But it has aluminum scars on it, so it claimed the prize.

By the way, should a body shop be able to do this, will I need to contact a special body shop? Since this really isn't body work, its more like structral, plus the epoxy work and everything.

I just have a feeling that some place like Service King is not going to be able to handle this type of work.

I would take it to Stuarts in Garland or the dealership. But I think I would try Stuarts first, call them on Tuesday. They are State Farm certified so you dont even need an adjuster if you use them. Trust me they have dealt with this before and your car will be the least expensive in the whole shop. I am always amazed when I am in there at the # of exotics with out of state tags that are shipped to his shop. Good Luck. Glad you are OK!

There is no way that's repairable. Either it's a total or a chassis replacement. My guess would be totalled.

+1. Although since there is minimal body damage, this may be the first chassis replacement that we see.

Unfortunately it does look like its very badly damaged, its difficult to imagine thats it'd be cost effective to repair, sorry about your bad luck.

Holy moly. Glad you're ok! Maybe a little more speed would have launched the block through the floorboard...and into you.

Why would you need to look under the car to know this? All you had to do was look down at your floor board and you would have been like "lol, there are f#cking holes in the bottom of my car!"

Amazing how much damage a piece of wood can cause, isn't it? Frankly, if that was my car, I would probably just hope that they declare it a total loss as I would be very concerned about that ever being repaired correctly.

The floor mats covered the two in the foot area, so I didn't see them at first and I was pretty disorientated at first just watching the guages and listening and watching the rear view for smoke or parts. Then as I slowed down I heard a dragging sound so I jumped out real quick, and it turned out to be 1 of the NACA ducts.

The funny thing is that the block will actually just barely fit under the chin lip when the car is at rest. But I guess between the downforce at highway speed (I wasn't speeding) and the turbulence it just went hog wild under there.

wow, this is the worst possible scenario with the wood block. The car is most definitely "totalled." Condolences!
