I don't know what that is - but it's definitely not "positive affirmation".

I wanted to smack him in the face to wake him up, but the look on his face when he mentioned the purchase told me that his girlfriend had already done enough damage. He would make a great abstinence promoter for schools... "don't end up like me, kids".

If I were to go to my reunion and the weather was good etc, I would have no hesitation driving the Elise. I'm sure there would be many other people driving their equally expensive vehicles (SUVs, Bimmers etc). While some might think you (and others driving nice cars) were showing off, IMO those people are probably jealous losers that aren't worth associating with in the first place. That being said, I do believe humility is a virtue so I probably wouldn't do doughnuts in the parking lot to "show off".

I don't think I will attend my high school reunion (the 10 year will be in 2 years), but if I did I would probably take the Lotus. I have always been a car guy so I know some people would be curious as to what I was driving.

Seeing that one has moved on and is doing better in one's life is a positive affirmation...not in the spiritual sense, but in the syntactic sense.

If my high school was relatively close by and I had some interest in going, I'd drive it, because it's my car...but my high school is 1,500 miles away and I've never even considered attending a reunion.

Should he hide them and be ashamed of living comfortably? What if this was a woman who really blossomed after high school... would you advise her to wear a burqa for fear that it would be seen as gloating to do anything less? I, for one, would absolutely drive it to a reunion because it's more than likely on a weekend or in the evening which is when I would regularly drive the Lotus anyway. Go for it.

im not saying that while in hs i was the one shoved in to lockers, i wasn’t! just that (my parents have done well in life) i was in the middle income bracket if you will, in school. Those that had parents that were ceo, cfo, etc felt as though unless you were one of them that you really didn’t matter that you would not amount to much if any. i am happy that that is not the case for me. as far as feeling as though i am showing off, not the case! as was said, no i will not be doing donuts in the parking lot. But i will arrive as everyone else does. i will wear nice clothing(per attire of the event) and enjoy myself. I do expect a group of people that will also arrive in very nice cars, certainly much nicer then my Elise!, some probably have regular chuffers- will I be impressed, no, but either way good for them! All I am saying is I look forward to going to my reunion looking good, feeling good, and enjoying myself!

That's all that matters. Don't doubt yourself. Drive with pride.

Interesting topic.

I was just contacted about my 15 year reunion.
Being that I'm still single and don't have anything even remotely close
to a marriage on the horizon I would vote no.
Unfortunately I think a lot of people would think you were just trying
to show off or pick up the loser chicks that are still single after all these years. (Of course I could be classified as the loser too??!!)

However, I do agree that you shouldn't care what others think.
Especially since I have the Elise for what I think are all the correct reasons (technology, handling prowess, history, etc.)

The other problem is that I have really grown to actually DISLIKE the attention the car brings. Living in Pittsburgh doesn't help the situation.
People can be realy A**holes around here and you NEVER see another Elise or Lotus....PERIOD!
I had it out for the 1st time this year the other day and literally stopped traffic at one of the busiest intersections in town.....had a whole gaggle of high schoolers yelling, taking pictures, etc. It was crazy.

I'll stick with the MINI...that alone will generate plenty of stupid questions!

No, I would take a Conti GT or an M5 instead. If you're into showing off your "car penis" these cars would go alot further as they're velvet covered hammers. Luxury, subtlety, "exclusivity", and power all in one. LOL!

Unquestionable comfort and luxury are more impressive than basic raw performance and good looks to the average non-car person--aka 99% of your HS class.

It really depends.... were/are you the type of person that wears brand name clothing and you wanted/want everyone to know that you were/are wearing a particular brand? (E.g. huge logos plastered all over your shirt?)

It seems very anti-Lotus to be that way, but that's just my take on it.

Unless I get an advertising fee from a designer I'm not getting screwed twice by them (once for the expen$ive purchase price and then once again for advertising for their brand).

If at all, a small Polo player or Sailboat for me on the shirt pocket only please, I have absolutely no need to have a huge ass POLO/RALPH LAUREN or NAUTICA plastered on my person.

To that end, I tend to think only those in the know really know whats special about Lotus cars and appreciate them for that reason, but those same folks would also find an Ariel Atom attractive too

Just take a "normal" car to your reunion, hell if you're lucky (depending upon where you ended up) you'll be flying in for your reunion anyhow and will likely have a rental.

I've always thought that people that went to school out of state and moved away were more likely to be successful anyhow.
