Take the car, Show it off. Hell yes.

Those moments don't come around very often...

Mine is my daily driver; so yes. Also, who says anyone would notice; it is just another parking lot. I don't think I would go out of my way to tell people that I drive an Elise; most wouldn't know, or care what it is; and if they saw it, they would think it is cool, or might be jeleous, and most would probably think it cost over 100K........you know, the usual song and dance.

Why not? There will be many at my 10 year reunion who will likely be in Mercedes, BMW M3s/M5s, etc. It's not like the car is worth over 100K or anything.

Just take it, who cares. The re-union is probably in a building and not in a parking lot anyway, right? Those hoping to show off their rides and impress everyone anyway will probably disappointed when they roll up and everyone is inside, not a bunch of car people waiting in the parking lot for thier arrival. Save the impressions for the Escort you bring. lol

Do you have it "out" on a fairly regular basis? I say this because you said the first time this year. May I ask what happened, you peeked my interest.

I agree on the attention part, it gets very old, very quick.

It would be a 2,663 mile drive. So, probably not.

I never got a notice about the 10-year reunion anyway. Got a newsletter that mentioned planning was underway, but never saw anything more about it. That was a few years ago.

What happened??

Snow, salt, and generally ****ty Pittsburgh weather!
For a perfect example....today it is 80 degrees here and sunny.
Saturday 28 degrees and snow.
Seriously.....check out the weatherchannel.com and type in Pittsburgh.
You'll see!!

Also....working 2 jobs and doing volunteer work doesn't leave much time for
my Elise. That will be changing soon. Realizing that I don't want to work my life away.

My HS class was filled with a bunch of idiots. The only people I care about seeing already see me and my baby. Otherwise, the rest can kiss my a$$.

Take the Lotus ....... and go somewhere else. High school reunions are overated. They are mainly for people whose high point in life was high school. You will spend your time telling everyone how much money you make and checking out the girls that are no longer very cute. You will have a better time with your significant other or kid blasting to dinner in your Lotus unless you are in sales and need the contacts.

Don't let people make you feel ashamed to be successful.

If you haven't already, you'll find out that there's a lot of people in life who will try to make you believe that it's wrong to have something they don't; that it's wrong to have money; that it's wrong to have any physical posessions that show how comfortably off you are. These people want you to keep all of that hidden away in a closet somewhere or, better off, not to have any of it.

Never let anyone make you feel bad for anything that you have earned with your own two hands. Drive whatever you want...a Lotus, an Aston, or a Daihatsu. Purposefully bragging to intentionally make others feel low is one thing, but driving a car that you have earned to a reunion, and leaving it at that, is most certainly not wrong; judging someone poorly because they are well off, is. I would go so far as to say that deciding to drive your junker to the reunion, instead of the Elise, because you are embarassed to be seen as successful, is a shameful act in itself.

People should look up to you, not down. Society is changing, though. If they judge you for your Lotus then that's their personal problem that they need to deal with, not yours. Ignore them.

i bet theres not another classmate of mine that's still not grown up.
i may grow older, but i refuse to grow up.
probably, most of my classmates couldn't enter and exit the elise.
i went to a 55th reunion last year but didn't have the elise. darn!

My HS reunion is this spring - not sure if I'll go, but if I do I'll take the Elise. The few people I keep in touch with already know I have it, and the others - who cares! Besides, I'm a woman and maybe I'm delusional but somehow I think people are more resentful of men with expensive cars than women.

The problem with high school reunions is people not being themselves. The chunky girls diet for 6 months and then put it back on after the reunion and dorks have some story about how they became a godzillionaire and hang out under the tan lamp weeks before. If the Lotus is a part of who you are, screw what anybody else thinks. Just go and be yourself.

2. He is trying to make us think he's rich driving his $40K toyota which looks like a $150K car. What a tw*t.

Neither is flattering.
I specifically chose this quote because it best represents the "righteousness" of those who express and unfavorable position with regards to taking their Lotus to their high school reunion. Now, let me first express that I mean no offense to those who have such opinions; I gladly accept your ideas and I do not wish to persuade you otherwise. I am simply placing down my thoughts.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

However, I believe that most other forum contributors would agree that there is a specific message and idea to examine.

Those of us who experienced or were placed at the lower end of the social hierarchy of high school, stereotypical classification system receive the idea of a high school reunion as an opportunity to usurp the mean, unemotional system of categorization. Those of us who had an excellent social status want to retain the same spot and fight off those who wish to move up.

So, why ignore or deny a high school reunion? What does it truly accomplish? It's great to hear that one could be so happy and content with oneself that one doesn't need the approval of high school friends or foes; but how confident are you really if you choose not to go. What message are you really sending?

Owning a Lotus is not only a rewarding activity; it becomes a part of one's identity. Color, packages, and modifications - one make a statement when we purchase and drive a car that is exotic and fast. Some of us smirk when someone drives by and shouts his or her approval. You can't tell me that one doesn't rev your engine to 8500 RPM while one’s drive by admirers simply because one like the sound of the stage 2 exhaust or likes arriving at 60 mph before that Toyota corolla reaches 25mph.

To conclude, one might say on this forum that other's opinions don't matter because, morally and ethically, it sounds great. You simply can't deny, however, the rush you get when you're able to validate your confidence in a car with such technology and aesthetic pleasure when someone pausing because of your car - Lotus or not.

The poll isn't "Will you go to your HS reunion or not."

It is "Would you drive your Lotus to your HS reunion."

I was planning on taking her last year, but then the family reunion got scheduled for the same weekend, so I didn't go.

The main reason to take it is that most of the people who I would have wanted to see at the reunion would have appreciated the Elise for the car she is.
