"But the execution of it is brainy, because it doesn't use an intercooler, yet still manages to produce nearly the same power levels (in this case 217bhp and 155lb ft) as the Exige SC, which does get an intercooler.
This begs the question: why does the Exige need the intercooler, and how can the Elise do without? Basically, it comes down to aesthetics. Exige owners love the roof scoop that feeds the intercooler; an Elise with an intercooler would need a major redesign of the engine bay, which would make it lumpier than the Elephant Man." Hmm, perhaps a bit oversimplified. Granted he's not comparing it to the Exige S 240, but I can think of a few more reasons why I prefer the Exige to the Elise SC ![]() |

My cupholder cost me $6.25, weighs 2 ozs and keeps the carpet and seats clean (usually). Someone can kiss my butt.

Perhaps they're making a statement, Americans are poofs for wanting a cup holder

Cupholders In America
OTOH, we tend to drive long distances here in the colonies. I recently heard that the longest motorway in England (the M6?) was only about 250 miles long. That barely gets you between major cities in the midwest of the US. I'll be making the trip from Northern VA to Indianapolis for LOG later this year, with a side trip to visit my brother in Chicago. I'll be using the cool (factory) cupholder for sure!

As for placing an intrcooler in an Elise, it can be done. Bimani mounts one on the bottom side of the engine so no modification to the upper panel is required. There's always a way if the desire is strong enough. |

I would put money my money that on the track, the exige has the same power due to heat soak of the intercooler...that has to be the all time worst placement of an intercooler.
If you seriously track you exige...I would have the header and intercooler pipes thermal coated. You got to find a way to keep the air charge cooler.

I don't understand, you can put a can or bottle back at the rear of the seat directly under the seatbelt...thats where I put my drinks.
BTW, I cant see Top Gear ever giving a Lotus a bad review. Its distinctivly British and has true racing heritage....its probably Britins marque sports car company.

![]() If I do that, I just end up with whatever tipped over and rolling back & forth between the seat and rear bulkhead. If you mean the passenger seat, then it's not an area I can comfortably reach when I'm harnessed in.

Yup. Americans are bragging-rights hungry. 220hp will be laughed at by most of them.

You'd have to really market the 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds to get people's attention. But then, you'll just have more new owners upset when they find out you need a 8K rpm launch to get those numbers. (I fought the name of the forum member that was really P.O. about that). Was it Mamovaka?
