I purchased a new Actron Auto Scanner model CP9575.
It could not communicate with my Elise. It does communicate with the minivan, and a mustang, and a random chevy something or other at the local auto parts store. It was exchanged for another CP9575 with the same results. The older models of Actron scanners and OBD II readers work fine on my Elise. I have not tried any other of the new models. Just passing along a potential warning to anyone looking for a reader/scanner and looking at this model to try it on your car before purchasing. |

Sorry to hear that. I had bought the entry level Actron scanner through Amazon. It did not work either so I returned it.
I recently bought a Scangauge II for my FJ Cruiser. I should see if that works on my Lotus.

TTZip, CP9180 does indeed work just fine.
It appears to be the new models from Actron that are not communicating with, at least my, Elise... I have now tried a third CP9575 and it also failed to communicate. A CP9580 also failed to communicate with my Elise. Both of these units worked on other cars in the lot, just not with the Lotus. 12V? Check... No blown fuses? Check... Tested with a CP9180? Check... CP9180 worked? Check... |

The cp9180 is the one to get.
The pocket sized ones dont work. If you are in a pinch or if they don't have the cp9180 Autozone has a "loner" program where you pay $150 for a CP9176L (which works with the Lotus). The deal is you have 90 days to bring it back for a full refund or they just charge you for it. Its a nice scanner too that comes with a plastic case. |

Damn should have read this ahead of time. CP9575 just sits on "Communicating with car". Let it sit there for about 10 minutes. Worked with 15 seconds on other cars. Should have spent the extra money on the Craftsman instead of this...going back for the Craftsman.

Just picked up an Actron 9580 for Christmas and my buzz was killed dead when it too failed to communicate with my '05 Elise, just like the 9575 above. It works fine on my '06 Explorer and my '05 9-5. I called Actron's support and they have no clue why it won't work, short of thinking that Lotus put in some incompatible something-or-other. I told him that others are using the 9180 without problems and he said that shouldn't be possible because both units are the same in that respect. So, unless someone out there knows how to get this to work, I too will be returning mine to Amazon. Sigh...

Just wanted to add to the anecdotal evidence on the newer Actrons - the Actron CP9550 would not communicate with my '06 Exige. It would display the startup screen, blink "Reading" for about 5-10 seconds, and then hold a solid "Reading" for several minutes, at which point I lost patience.

FWIW, the Actron CP9125 works on an '05 Elise.

Thanks for this thread, it helped much when the MIL came on this weekend and the dealer was closed. I bought the CP9125 on the advice and am happy it is so easy to use and erase a code. Now I know the car is safe to drive, off to the beach. Thanks again!

Yeah I made the mistake of buyin the CP9575 cuz it works on my wife's Jag. Won't talk to my 07 Elise. I emailed Actron and I guess their PR uy answered, not a tech. Gave the standard "it works with all ODBII compliant cars, blaaa, blaaa, blaaa. It is an issue with the car". I have an appointment next Friday with a garage. Anyone know if the Snap-On scanner works?
