New Esprit is coming

OK, I won't divulge any names, but heard yesterday from a couple of folks very close to Lotus that the Esprit is close to ready to go. Expect an announcement in the coming weeks and the car to show up in 2014. New owners could of course change their minds at any time, but apparently the car is real and in final validation production form. A lot of time and money has been spent on this project so I would be surprised that whether the current owners or a future one would waste all of the effort and not produce the car. Just consider this note another one in the rumor mill, but it did come from folks that should actually know. We shall see.

If the Esprit carries the luxury of the Evora and marries it with the spirit of the past Esprit - I have a feeling I'll be giving Lotus of Plano a deposit...

Anyone wants to guess how much it will be?.

I'll say that if a v6 exige costs 100k, and a nice evora 80k, it will probably be upwards $110k

If Lotus wants this to work, they'd better not price it too high or it'll be the same story as the Evora but this time comparing against the likes of Porsche Panamera/Gran Turismo/DB9/etc....

They've gotta up that build quality and price it COMPETITIVELY! The Evora really isn't priced right.... Should be less.

Oh well, I just got out of a damn 2.5 hour traffic jam so I really have no idea what I'm posting right now.....

It would be very sad if they placed the Esprit in the same category as a Panamera.

+1
And it'll be a lot more than 110K, esp if it has that in house V8 that they were designing.

Seeing how the Evora is compared against the Cayman, so I was wondering that seeing how the Esprit is bigger, maybe the Panamera or some other bigger car... Hindsight, maybe not the Panamera since it's a 4 seater.....

But I guess my main concern is price range. They should price is considerably lower than the competition. They should be targeting previous Lotus owners with the Esprit instead of trying to get 'new owners' since Lotus owners WILL be very interested in this and it'll be an easy sell. Build from this first, that's what I'd say to Lotus.

If the car ends up like they had planned, then it should be in the mix with the 458/gallardo/mp4-12c etc....

If it's priced as such, I'd probably take the f-car....

???? I think you need to recalibrate. The 2004 Esprit listed at about $93,000, which is $113,000 today.

The least expensive Ferrari is nearly double that, and it's not even a compeditor for the Esprit. The actual compeditor is more than double that.

90k-130,000, I think is reasonable and I'd seriously consider but if it gets near 200k, say 170k or more, I'd definitely rather spend a bit more and get a Ferrari. Just saying....

THe last purported leak to the press came from Autocar back in November and said this:

Quote:
The new Lotus Esprit is purportedly almost finished, with just signing off and minor tweaking needed.

The new Lotus flagship is all but complete, but with the on-going management issues at the company it is far from becoming a production reality, a Lotus source has told Autocar.

It will use a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an F1-style KERS system, mated to a seven-speed paddle-shift transmission.

Despite a power output of around 650bhp, and a carbonfibre/aluminium construction, the Esprit is expected to cost no more than a high-end 911 – around £100,000.

Currently there is no word of when, or indeed if the Lotus Esprit will make it into production. A spokesman declined to comment on the story.

High end 911, does it mean 991S, or 911TT, or 911GT2?

I can't see them pricing this too close to the evora..a loaded a is 95k..they've already come out and said they expect the evora to be around a bit longer and it'll have to be in order to start profiting. I'm guessing 145-170

$145K. I'm concerned about an in house motor, hope I'm wrong. Should be a heck of a ride.
Price and exclusivity of a baby Aston, more performance. Wonder how quiet (outside) they will make it.
