CLAM-OFF or NOT CLAM-OFF C O L O R A D O

I have seen several posts on this already. COLORADO, I just spoke with Ferrari o' Denver and they do not think 4 hours is enough time for a clam off job. They are going to attempt the crimping changes with clam in place.

They are about to test the procedure on a car to get an idea of the required time for the repair(s) and then start scheduling accordingly.

I'm not sure that Lotus has to pay them if they don't follow the Lotus procedure.

Yes it is. And labor times are different as well.

Dealer Recommendation in LA for the recall?

Hi,
got my recall letter yesterday. Any recommendation if to go to Newport Beach or Galpin?

I'm not sure if they are planning to remove the clam or not, I will get more details tomorrow when I find out if they received the remaining needed parts or not, which they are expecting.

If it's clam off, I'm nervous that 6 hours may not be enough for a one man job. My dealer is extremely small and will only have one guy working on my car. I really hope they have the parts, because if they don't I'm screwed, I have no idea when I'll get there after this week, as its 3.5 hours away and my schedule flexibility disappears at the end of this month.

I'd like to know the same thing. I emailed Galpin, but got no response.

Interesting, I got the VIN ECU recall but not the oil line one.

I have a 2005 Elise. Strange, so I guess not all of them are affected?

Newport would be my suggestion. I went into Galpin not to long ago and the sales guy was a pain and the parts guy was no better. I think lotus is just still to new to them??? I just set up a appointment for next week at Newport.

Same here! Called the dealership in San Carlos (boardwalk) and they said that they don't have the parts hence I cannot schedule the appointment. They will call back when they get them in.

Not a problem up here in Minnesota. My car is down for the winter. Waiting for dealer to call me back to make appointment for April.

Ooo, let us know when you book for, so I can book after you

Thinking I'll have them put in an aluminum radiator while they're in there, you going to have them do anything else?

To do the job correctly the front clam should come off. While it is off put braided brake lines in and maybe an all Al radiator!

My shop has received the parts, but is still waiting on the tools (RS motorsports). I'm putting a rad in while the clam is off.

Thinking of radiator and hoses.

The blower-resister pack is popular, but since my car has had the drain holes since near the beginning in SoCal, I don't know if it is worth renewal.

A friend and I both have an appointment Friday AM at Flow in NC. They are budgeting 6 hours per car. Their understanding is clam off is the method per Lotus.

Of course, you know, since it was over 70* here the last four days, they're calling for snow in the western half of our state tomorrow night, so there's a 50/50 chance we don't make it up there for our appointments.

The letter mentions the front oil cooler line connecting the front coolers being replaced but what about the rest of the fittings at the filter sandwich plate and other fittings on oil coolers? I've already done the proper fitting swap on mine but if I were having the warranty recall work done I would ensure that all fittings are replaced with proper barbed fittings. It's been awhile but I believe it totals 6 fittings. If all Lotus is approving is replacing two fittings connecting the front oil cooler hose then that only addresses 1/3 of the potential leaky fittings. I don't think they would skimp on the recall but if it was my car I would definitely pony up for replacement of the other fittings if they are not in the recall plans.

Reread the letter. It includes all fittings at the oil coolers and at the sandwich plate. The only hose replaced is the one between the two coolers.

Spoke too soon. My letter showed up today.

Any recommendations on dealer in the SF Bay Area? Boardwalk is the closest -- are they any good?
