... Are there any differences to justify the Lotus $ cost difference ? ...
I would expect not, especially since Lotus has not changed that "side" of engine and has obligations to Toyota for the pass through warranty they probable use a rebranded standard Toyo filter. As to filters, my last install was a Toyota TRD brand, I don’t have the PN records with me at work, but it was easy to cross reference to the engine through a Toyo site. Filter cost a little more than standard Toyo issue but lots less than Lotus part. Lotus for sure is not using the premium TRD part as it has these differences, metal caps top and bottom rather than “paper” and filtering medium is 100% synthetic fiber similar to the Mobil 1 filters.
Blurb from Toyota Racing site:
"TRD oil filters use a 100% synthetic fiber filtration medium to provide the highest possible dirt removal efficiency with the lowest possible flow restriction. The construction of the outer steel container offers a burst strength exceeding six times the operating pressure and ten times the fatigue strength of standard filters. The internal backing plate is polished to remove manufacturing burrs and improve flow.
When it comes to oil filters, all you need to know is that TRD oil filters are designed to hold 45-percent more dirt than the leading national brand. And while the service life of TRD oil filters is the same as original equipment filters, TRD air filters offer a much longer service life because of their unique construction. A TRD air filter never needs to be replaced – only serviced periodically by washing and re-oiling. And to make that easy, TRD offers a service kit that includes a water-soluble cleaning solution along with the correct oil to re-saturate the filter medium after cleaning."
