What news about the Lotus Elise? Oh god is it getting cancelled too?! And it sucks to say it, but now there are ZERO American sportbike manufacturers. Unless you count Roehr. They have a cool 180hp SUPERCHARGED Harley engined bike. But it costs $50,000

a couple of points:
-Buell is reputed to have continually embarrasased HD before (and to an extent, after) acquisition. Buell took crap HD products and made them AMAZING. Yeah, there were a few mis-steps (the B-Last), but it literally FORCED HD to improve their crap (ref the V-rod line). -Buells don't generate the kind of income for HD that the HD bikes do...and that's not an entirely correct statement---HD Bikes are profitable for HD, BUT HD Products (clothes, accys, etc) are HUGELY profitable for HD---a Dealer will make as much as 50% equiv profit (of the bike sale) selling the add-ons. I know several HD dealers that won't even consider selling a bike to an out-of-state buyer---they want the 'return' sales a local buyer will bring. Buell buyers aren't like that..it's not a 'lifestyle' thing--they RIDE, not pose. I can't help but wonder if this frees EB to resurrect Buell (under a new name, of course) without the oversight/interference that HD brought to his fine operation. I nearly/would have bought a gorgeous orange Lightning a few years ago. Instead, I bought a new furnace for the house:-( john m.

I don't know how valid this is as I could not find an official link to this alleged story.... but it could be interesting if true...

Bought a Buell today.
Picking it up tomorrow. 2009 XB12Scg in Cherry Bomb Red. I wanted blue, but they didn't have one. This is a $10,495 bike usually, I got it for $6,575 TT&L. I could've had one of the higher performance, more expensive Rotax powered 1125 Buells for CHEAPER - those bikes go for $12,499 usually, $4,999 today - but I HAD to have the potato-potato of the Harley engine. I got the XB12Scg because I feel like it's the epitome of Buell's philosophy with the Sportster engine. It's a naked, minimalist bike, on which everything has been moved lower and more inward. Hence, cg, Center of Gravity. The purest distillation of Buell's innovative ideas. I'm stoked! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Just out of curiousity did they give you a monster deal? There's a dealer out here (Milwaukee area) advertising 1125R's for $3995!!! (Probably leftover or slightly used '08s for that price though I'd bet) |

They gave me the bike for $6,000. After Tax Title and License, I was up to $6,575. Bike goes for $10,495 new. Mine was scooped right off the floor in the storage room at a nearby Harley dealership, and carried in a trailer over to my local HD dealer, where I'll be picking it up tomorrow!
----------------- This is the realization of a dream for me. This is my Lotus on two wheels. This is my DREAM bike. And now it's mine. For nearly half price. If you're on the fence about getting a Buell, GET OFF THE FENCE AND GET ONE! Our little small town dealer didn't see much action, but the Dallas dealership was busy all day. The 1125's are going for about 60% off!!!!!!!!!

It's too bad. I really have no use for the majority of Harley riders/sales people and their attitude. But Buell enthusiasts were always about performance and handling. Not image. It's a damn shame cause Buell has recently made huge strides in both those areas. I may have to swing down and see what deals there are.

![]() The XB12 series have been my favorite as well, cool bike you got there. Pricing up here has been similar to what you mentioned, the more expensive/advanced 1125r/1125cr are actually priced less than the "inferior" XB12 bikes. Our local dealer has a low mileage '07 XB12ss for $6500, $1500 more than a brand new R or CR. The 1125r is really tough on the eyes though. Yeah, on paper and in the saddle it's better in every way. It's got liquid cooling, superior airflow management, 50 more horsepower produced by a far more advanced Rotax motor etc... At some point however, you are going to have to get off the bike and look at it. Don't get me wrong, I've seen uglier bikes but the 1125r is (IMHO) the one unattractive Buell. The 1125cr however a huge improvement (again, IMHO)visually over the 1125r, yet it still retains all the virtues. Seeing these bikes in person, the radiator pods grow on you rather quickly without the goofy looking nosecone on the R. As fun as it is to ride, we all want our machines to look good too. If I decide to step up to the plate and get one, it would still likely be one of the XB12's. I like to think of it much the same way as an older air cooled Porsche vs. a new liquid cooled one, yeah the new one is better but it sort of looses that special "something" that makes them so special/unique. Great looking bike you have there, now go get her broken in! Noble

I went down and checked them out this afternoon. Damn with these deals I think I'm going to have to buy one! Going back monday and will probably do it. I really like the CR. What an awesome looking bike and very comfortable. It's exactly what I was going to be looking for (next year). I like the street fighter type but wanted the extra performance. At this price I don't think I should wait.

Only problem I see with the 1125R/CR is that the motor is unique to that bike. Sure it's a Rotax, but that motor was built to Buell specs (part of the conversation I had with Erik when I met him). In 5+ years have fun sourcing parts for that bad fella..... whereas with the Lightnings (or Firebolts) you've got H-D underpinnings..... lots of Sporties running around.
