They sort of have a point. I have to admit, $245 seems steep to me. That's why I do my own oil changes (and for that price will do yours also, bring it on over!).
On the flip side, the $400.00 the GM dealer wanted to replace the turn signal switch on my wife's 98 Corvette seemed equally stupid, so I did the work myself. Took me maybe half an hour. Unfortunately I seem to be the only mechanic I can afford! |

Oil changes are ridiculously expensive....but... there is some sweet irony to a bunch of corvette guys saying that lotus owners are all about pride and ego and don't know to change their own oil.
Last I checked, the average corvette demographic was 60+ year old men and 40 year old women driving automatic corvettes. Not exactly your hardcore enthusiasts. |

I worked at a Chevy dealer for 4 days before I just couldn't take it any more.
It's a whole different trailer park- er world. No one that worked there was able to comprehend who would buy a Lotus when you could get a CORVETTE! Don't get me wrong, the Corvette is a good looking car. I'm sure the new ones perform well. If it wasn't so big, heavy, common, etc they would make for a nice car. I'll pass 4 hairdressers, 6 mullets, and 5 slicked back gold chain wearing fellas, and a couple high school students driving them on any given trip the to grocery store. I just made a 5 hour trip to TN and then 5 hours back though (and inbetween was in an SUV up to OH and back) and never did run across another Lotus. Edit: And I change my own oil, brakes, trans fluid, brake fluid, plugs, etc etc. Yes oil change prices are ridiculous. I'm sure supporting the overhead of a dealer full of Lotus, Lamborghinis, Spykers, etc cost a bit more than one full of Aveos and HHR's. I'm still not paying it though.

Jeering and insulting lotus owners is a d1ck move. I would be a corvette owner, if it weren't for the fact that almost every corvette owner I meet is an arrogant asshole, who thinks he has the best car on the planet and everything else sucks.

Sad thing is...the OP there owns both a Corvette and a Lotus Elise (or did at one time).
I owned both as well, and I'm happy where I'm at right now, tyvm.

It reminds me of what Jay Leno said in the forward to "Hemi in the Barn"
Paraphrasing BIG time.... If you only like Corvette's or you only like Porsche's or you like Cobra's, and think everything else sucks, your really not a car guy, your a brand bigot. |

I guess we all should get along. After all hasn't Lotus helped out the Vette's suspension over the years? And what about the old ZR1 where Lotus was contracted to design the engine? lol
