"Did You Know......"

Thought I would pay tribute to ESPN and Cliff Clavin with their useless facts of info....
So give up some facts, and maybe we'll learn something:

Did you know that the average North Korean is 4 inches shorter than the average South Korean?

Eddie,

I did not know that. Thanks for sharing. Did you know that the round non-reflective raised pavement markers are called Botts dots? In some parts of the country, they are called turtles. They act like rumble strips.

Awesome thread! Coincidentally, I bought this book in the airport last night on my way to NYC:

Here's an example:

Mozart once composed a piano piece that required a player to use two hands and a nose in order to hit all the correct notes.

Did you know that they are named for their inventor Dr. Elbert Dysart Botts who worked for Caltrans. They tend to not be used in areas that get snow (like here in Virginia) as the snowplows tend to rip them off the road. When invented in 1953, they were originally intended to make the land divider stripes painted on the road last longer - safety benefits were discovered later.

Do you what the WD in WD-40 stands for?

The name was lifted right out chemist Norm Larsen's laboratory notebook. Way back in 1953, he was trying to concoct an anti-corrosion formula, which worked on the basic principle of displacing water. On his 40th try, Larsen finally got it right. Hence the name WD-40.

It literally means Water Displacer, 40th try.

Regards,
Wayne

The most played song on American radio during the twentieth century was You've Lost That Loving Feeling which was written by Barry Mann, Phil Spector, and Cynthia Weil. Although recorded by different artists, the song is the only one in history to be played over 8 million times on the radio. That amounts to about 45 years if the song was played back to back! Three songs were played 7 million times: Never My Love, Yesterday, and Stand By Me (in that order).
