I think the myth comes from bare coils in old frigidaires.
They used to defrost them by putting hot water in the metal trays.
The heat defrosted the insulating frost on the coils and the now bare coils would cool very rapidly again.

Only cold water can freeze.
Hot water must be converted to cold before freezing.
It is a linear and predictable medium.

Did you know that many trained help animals such as dogs can sense epileptic seizures before they happen?

In "Alien", during the scene where the crew enters the abandoned ship, Scott used his kids in spacesuits to make everything look bigger.

did you know a flea has the largest penis proportionate to its body in the entire animal kingdom at 2/3's of it's body size?

What he probably meant to say is "boiled water freezes faster", which is true. The boiled water has less oxygen, and thus cools down faster.

Elephants, too. This was just discovered this year. They put a mark on the elephant in a place where the elephant couldn't see it except in a mirror. While watching itself in a mirror, the elephant touched the spot with her trunk, as if to investigate.

I have seen that as a theory, but never verified.
It is a change in conditions though.
I would expect the same water to freeze faster from cold.

It does work for superheating liquid in the microwave.
I am unsure if it is the preboiling or the sitting still and stabilizing.
I think it is the lack of movement.
Caution with preheated liquids though.

Elephants are born pre-programmed with some knowledge from their Grandparents. For example, a young Elephant can know about a waterhole 200 miles away because his grandmother used to get water there.

Same way with Bavarian Motorist and chinese buffets.

Can openers were invented about 48 years after the can was first introduced.

Did you know, if you have a group of 23 people, the odds are in favor (50.6%) of there being a birthday match between two of the people?

Therefore it would take the intestines of 44,121,707 average people to reach the moon.

But you were close...

This is fact; confirmed with my wife who is a gastroenterologist.

This thing about the small intestine reaching the moon is a longstanding rumor. All I can figure is that they are referring to the digestive surface of the small intestine (all those microvilli.........)

Correct. If water is hot, it has to be cooled before it can freeze. Cold water is already there and it get colder at the same rate as hot water - but it has a head start on the hot water.

The only thing that "boiled water" might do is make clearer ice cubes. I take energy (actually the removal of energy) to cool water. If you have water at say 50 degrees, you have to cool it 18 more degrees to get it to 32 degrees. If you have hot water (okay make it warm) at 90 degrees, you have to cool it 58 degrees to get it to freezing.
Given the same equipment, it's going to take nearly three times longer to "remove" 58 degrees from hot water than it will take to "remove" 18 degrees from cold water.

But that doesn't stop a lot of people. I've seen people run their sink for several minutes to get hot water to fill their ice cube tray before they stick it in the freezer...
