Do you believe there is a God?

Harris poll results:

Although 79 percent of Americans believe there is a God, only 66 percent are absolutely certain of it – hence, 21 percent of the population are atheists and 34 percent are agnostics

• Ten percent of Protestants, 21 percent of Roman Catholics, and 52 percent of Jews do not believe in God.
• 84 percent of women believe in God, compared with 73 percent of men.
• 91 percent of African Americans believe in God, compared with 81 percent of Hispanics and 78 percent of whites.
• 87 percent of Republicans believe in God, compared with 78 percent of Democrats and 75 percent of Independents.
• 82 percent of those with no college education believe in God, compared with 73 percent who went to college.

No. If there is one and he will only accept me in heaven if I believe in him, I don't want to go there. We have enough narcisists down here.

Same as time travel. If it was true it would be unquestionably so.

Maybe he'll only accept you if you don't believe in Him

That would be a resounding YES! Right now I am trying to get out as a CEO of a medical corporation to join the ministry full time. If given a choice between a multimillion dollar job in Beverly Hills with all kinds of perks or a hut somewhere in Central America, where I could minister, I would choose the hut without thinking.

That's too bad since they are 2 of the most important subjects in our world today.

"A God" means one of two things:

1) There aren't really gods at all.
2) There are many different gods, but they are all super beings at war with each other over their followers, or they share their followers with different truths.

"The God" means either two things:

1) There isn't really THE god, at all, matter of fact no god.
2) Most of the belief systems over the history of time are filled with part truths, or possibly one belief or religion has it all or much more of it than any other while most religions worship a god that does not exist as they know it.

95% of Amurricans believe in 'GOD'.

I can't believe there are so many godless heathens in this god foresaken forum!

He will strike upon thee with His mighty wrath.

If you want to be SAVED, go over to the moremonkey forum. That's where all the 'saved' hang out...

PS

Shouldn't there be only TWO poll choices?

1) Unsure
2) I'm deluded

They are also the causes of just about everything bad that has happened in our recorded history.

Interesting that the poll shows more people voting No. I'm actually surprised. What do you think about the extent to which "God" influences your politics. I'm always surprised about how often people refer to God in their speeches in the US (esp Bush). I don't think this happens so much in any other developed country.

Here are a few more questions.

Do you believe there is a God?
or
Do you know there is a God?

In other words, how strong is your belief. Do you hold your belief in God as just a likely theory or as fundamental truth. What's the point in believing in something arbitrarily if you cannot know?

My answer: I know there is a God (just one). There is more scientific evidence for there being a God than not, but not enough evidence to prove the case for either side. However, I know there is a God because of things I have seen Him do in my life and the lives of those around me.

no surprise

No surprise that more people on this board vote No, perfectly consistent with the tone around here.

But, let me go out on a limb here and predict that this poll and the ensuing 'discussion' will not change a single person's point of view on the topic, regardless of poll results or 'points' made in the discussion.

Lots of religions.....lots of denominations, this is a polarizing question but my belief basically boils down to this:
If you believe that Jesus Christ came to earth as the son of God and died for your sins and have faith in him, you will go to Heaven. There are a lot of false gods and one true God.
I can honestly say that he has never let me down (including lots of trivial things but some major ones as well) and is one of the reasons I am able to drive a Lotus today. YMWNV
