They actually do count. Now you need to enroll in a firearm safety course.

I'm not thread jacking just responding to a couple post here. if we need to take it up somewhere else on the site we can start a new post in other.

1. if someone breaks into your house with mal intent, calling the police is doing you...oh about ZERO good. cuzz it'll take on average 5-10 minutes to respond? lets say it only takes 2 minutes(give the cops the benefit of the doubt). now i can inflict a lot of punishment with my bare hands and feet in 2 minutes...do you want that kind of punishment thrown upon you?? not me!

Sorry to all the police on this site this is not personal and i respect you for the crap you must deal with but YOU chose this career.

2. i don't think the police are personally bad i think that as a whole they have lost the direction our countries fore fathers intended. that has a lot to do with the politicians. example (why should it be my governments job to enforce whether or not i wear a seat belt?) it shouldn't! so why ticket me for it....REVENUE.

3. cops are okay but they have lost the "To protect and serve" attitude and have adopted a "to write tickets and collect revenue" attitude.

I have:

a Remington 22 bolt
a Ruger 30-0-06 bolt
a Browning 12 gauge
and an 1886 Marlin lever action 30-30

I have used the Marlin for deer hunting, although it has the old bead sights on it!

In Minnesota they're treated differently, depending on the particular law. Due to a few quirks, a Hornaday .17 would be considered a BB gun under some of the same laws, though, so I'm certainly not saying it makes sense.

Anyway, I have a couple air rifles, an Anschutz Mark2000 .22 target rifle, and a Mossberg 500 .20ga shotgun.

I have a 40 year old 5mm pellet rifle and a 72 year old Browning A-5 16 GA semi-auto. I have one box of 2-9/16th shells left with lead shot. That's probably all that will ever go through this gun. I'm not going to rechamber and the barrel can only handle lead, or at least not steel..

Thanks to capitalism, you can get one in just about any caliber these days. Here's more info:
http://www.gunblast.com/DPMS-308.htm

Regarding cops, an optometrist whose only crime was betting on football games was gunned down by a swat team. A 17 year old kid was shot in the back of the head by a cop for allegedly skipping out on a check at IHOP -- although I think it turned out his group left money on the table. Both incidents happened not too far from where I live.
http://www.justiceforsal.com/

These are not isolated incidents. It's happening everywhere. Check the map.

Unless you walk around the house with your gat strapped, it won't do you a lot of good either if someone really wants to inflict 2 minutes of punishment on you and they have the element of surprise.

I love guns, though I do not hunt anymore. I love shooting clays and plinking. When the second coming comes, or the red commies drop out of the sky, I still remember how to hunt and field dress game.

My brother and I used to shoot our dad's old bolt action remmington 22 at his dad's farm. We were probably 8 to 10 years old at the time. I shot my grandfather's 8-guage shotgun when I was 8... pulled the trigger and got knocked on my back!

I have my great-great-grandfathers 1889 Remmington model 3 (sliding block) -- 40 cal. 1 3/4 dram black powder cartridge rifle -- he used it to hunt turkey.

I have a CVA Hawkins 50 cal. black powder rifle.

There's an AMT .22 Backup somewhere around the house.

Used to have a very old .25 Colt Auto.

Red Ryder BB-gun (50th anniversary issue).

There are more cases of a "self defense" gun being used against the home owner than a home owner using it for self defense. Don't forget people breaking into homes are usually a bit more desperate than the average gun owning home owner. Like Greg said, they have the element of surprise.

I've never been in that position, but I hear actually shooting someone with a gun is harder than it sounds. There's a psychological boundry that many won't pass when pressed. So you have to be sure you'd shoot the person if you bring that gun out. If not, you are safer without it, even if they are armed. Perhaps even more so if they are armed.

12 guage pump shotgun. Works pretty good to keep down the groundhog population. Especially when shot from the windows of your house. Dont laugh, groundhogs have amazing ears and run at the first hint of trouble. I really need a rifle because it is hard to get close enough with the shotgun.

That said, the shotgun is no where near as effective as the 4 year old german shepherd my wife and I adopted last fall. F'ing dog killed about 8 groundhogs this summer. She is amazing. I havent seen a groundhog for about 3 months now so I think she wiped them all out! I hope it stays that way.

I've got a few.

Some Colt SAA .45's, including Bob Munden race guns, a few Colt, SIG, Seecamp, and Glock Autos, assorted Smiths, and a few shotguns and rifles. A few black power guns too.

I am not a member and do not support the extreme views of the NRA; I favor gun registration and strict access laws, coupled with severe punishment for gun crime.

I refuse to kill animals but I do love to punch holes in paper; paper doesn't bleed.

The decision to keep firearms at home or to carry should not be taken lightly and that decision should be based on individual needs and physical and emotional capabilities.

Being an Army brat, I grew up around guns, but when my children were growing up I made the decision not to keep firearms in the house.

Obviously firearms should be under secure lock and key at all times.

Best regards to all,

Leo

I knew a woman many years ago how shot and killed an intruder who broke in through a window by a fire escape in her Chicago apartment... it was ruled self-defense. In her case, the fear of rape, or worse, won out.

Yeah, my Lasermax in my Sig 226 finally broke so I went with a laser in the grips (Crimson).

Really fun at indoor ranges.

Agreed.

Bob Munden race guns eh?
Very nice - I once spoke to him on the phone about tuning my Colt Python.
Nice man -- quick draw.
