Friends of mine went fishing to Venezuela last year and the fuel was 12cents per gallon.

3.55 avg here today.

But 1.99 would be smart. The oil companies would only need to do that about a month before idiots were buying SUV's again, and funding into research of electrics, hybrids, biofuels, etc was cut by all US manufactures, etc. Then they could crank them back up to $4 or $5. Wash rinse repeat.

There was an article in the local paper this morning about the crazy variances in gas prices. They blamed it on different wholesale contract pricing due to the hurricane/ shortage scare and plain old greed ...err...I mean capitalism.

It is not enough expensive yet to change the way we are over consuming it.

Oh please don't think I'm one of those saving my Elise for something. I have 41K miles on it! Just have barely been driving lately.
I do think it's funny though they have us conditioned to think $3.00 gas is cheap now. It's also funny that the last time oil was the same price per barrel that it is now that gas was nearly $1 per gallon cheaper. In percentage terms of profits- that is massive. A couple years ago, $3 a gallon would seem outrageous. If they keep prices "low", people will forget again, and this time next year after repeating the same cycle, $4gal gas will seem "cheap"
