I remember George was a decent prez, kept his affairs quiet (I mean LOOK at Martha-he had to have some interns from Yale or Harvard).

I think he took more credit than he deserved from the war victory-I mean the British were undermanned and their supply chain was wayyy overstretched. Plus, George's officers really ran the war for him. He just stood there posing, like when he crossed the Potomac while his men worked their asses off.

Actually (depending on definition) George Washington was not the first President of the United States. That title falls on John Hanson, who was the first (to fulfill a full term) President of the United States (from 1781 to 1782) under the Articles of Confederation - the predecessor of the Constitution of the United States. George was the first president under the Constitution (which did not come into effect until 1788).

Just a bit of trivia for those who didn't know...

Interesting fact...no one ever painted George Washington the same way twice, so we're still not 100% sure exactly what he looked like.
i disagree.
historians and even tacticians from washingtons day didnt regard him as anything special as a general or tactician.
he lost many battles and even when the british surrendered, general washingtons feats were politicized and spun in as favorable light to him as they possibly could.
i love george washington and what he did for our country, but im just relaying what ive read.
dont shoot the messenger.

My nasty reputation takes me everywhere

It is admitted by all that he was much addicted to women, as well as very expensive in his intrigues with them, and that he debauched many ladies of the highest quality; among whom were Posthumia, the wife of Servius Sulpicius; and Lollia, the wife of Aulus Gabinius.

I think that the beauty of Washington came out when he was president. He wasn't perfect, still imbedded in the British aristocratic ways, but he was able to balance things amazingly well. I believe that his neutrality when England and France were going to war kept us a republic.

Tim, you found one who didn't know. I appreciate the lesson in history.

Yeah, I think that George would have been a better president without Hamilton's influence. But that is my opinion as I am not a Hamilton fan. Hamilton was all about entitlement for the rich and to hell with everyone else.

Alexander Hamilton was the one that really built this country. As a bastard born in Haiti, he created our banking system, Coast Guard, and Wall Street, to name his major achievements.

Yeah. Alexander Hamilton missed Aaron Burr and shot high, into a tree.

Burr put one in his abdomen.

Before he died, Hamilton outlawed pistol duels. Smart guy, but too little too late...
