Got Radar Detector? This is enlightening, if not frightening...

Found this link posted on another forum. Interesting to see officers' attitudes towards those possessing detectors.

I worked through most of the posts, and it does provide an interesting perspective. (I suppose it reinforces the views of those who hard-wire the radar detector in an obscure place, so that the cop doesn't see it.)

However, for those of us who drive little sportscars, I suspect we already have a higher likelihood of getting a ticket to begin with. That is, following the logic of those law enfocement types, why would anybody buy a car that can go fast, unless they intended to break the law?

Stereotypes can be a curse and a blessing. In this case, it looks like a curse.

Nothing wrong with having one, but I think common sense is the best radar detector.

Here's one quote that caught my eye:
Quote:
Just having a RD is an indicator that you plan to speed and are trying to conceal it.
Of course, the counter point is, 'Just having an Elise is an indicator that you plan to speed'.

Don't get me started on Cops and obeying the law. I have a parking problem at work because of construction across the street at StarBucks. So an off duty policeman parks illegally and just flashes his badge when told to move. In philly there were so many accidents downtown late at night with non-pursuit violations(they run the reds) they are now sanctioned. How many SHerrifs or city cops you see on the freeway heading away from their territories and they are speeding. They have no jurisdiction on the freeway in and out of their areas (unless in pursuit), but they know they won't be stopped. They now have a license to speed and a lot of them use it. Don't get me wrong it's not all cops.

I find it interesting that they have the duty to uphold the laws. But, when laws are passed concerning radar detectors, that's different. There are a lot of laws I don't like, but I feel giving up armed robbery and male prostitution was a small price to pay for living in this country.

By the way I don't have a RD

Maybe someone could make a chart with an upward curve that shows the faster you go, the funner it is; with the "speed limit" being at the bottom of the fun curve. HR people: Where are you ???
