Does anyone know its intended derivation? My best guess is that it came from "goggles" - kind of like it's supposed to clarify your vision through the vast sea of the Internet.

Scratch that... a quick Google search revealed this:

What's a Google?

"Googol" is the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros. The term was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, and was popularized in the book, "Mathematics and the Imagination" by Kasner and James Newman. Google's play on the term reflects the company's mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web.

PS - Zoomie, not sure if it was intended or subconscious, but you said "Google is your FIEND" rather than "FRIEND".

when larry page spoke here early this year he had some funny stories one of which was that they didn't realize they had misspelled "googol" as google for a fairly long time. Oh well, I'm sure he could buy the dictionary now and change it if he wanted to

I've discovered the reason for the banana shortage. And to think he looks so happy about it.

Yes Fiend, not friend. It was a cold blooded and premedicated remark.

When I see the GOOgles, I think immediately of my dog kOOgles. and it makes me giggle... hehe

I've always figured that I had to be real careful saying hello to my brother Jack on the airplane. I could just see it now - I see my brother and in the excitement holler out "Hi Jack!"

I once had an Uncle named Ivegotabomb ( only ONE " T " tho ) he had a real short fuse....almost anything would set him off....his son ( my cousin's ) name was atom...he was always getting blasted in high school....he used to drive an old chevy that had a bad detonation problem....he used to really go ballistic on everyone, but I got a charge out of it...he's in college now... Tennessee Technical ( TNT ) he's in dorm number C4...

Well, I could go on forever blowing you away with this sick humor, but I'll stop so someone else can continue this story...
