Most like to smoke a joint with: Obama
Most like to play baseball with: Romney
Most like to have a beer with: Huckabee
Most like to be stuck in the jungle with only basic tools with: McCain (well, actually Angelina Jolie, but she isn't running)
Most like to assume their identity if they suddenly die: Edwards (would immediately build a go kart racing track in the back yard)
Most like to have as my neighbor in a crime infested neighborhood: Guiliani

Somebody needs to help me with Hillary....Most likely to ask for advice on how to get a stain out?

This is the first bipartisan politics thread I can recall on LT.

I have never felt so helpless as an American as when he was in office.

At this point, I've got my eye on Huckabee. He seems the most honest. Maybe I'm being fooled, I hope not. I hope to find out more. He gets bonus points for his speaking and being able to handle himself..so far. The media will start to like him if enough voters do. Reagan and JFK did well with the media, that help a lot. Not the kind of person you could picture yourself hating.

3 months ago I was sort of smiling when I heard Ron Paul, a nice old timer with a simplistic viewpoint. I think most of his ideas couldn't be implemented now that things have gotten as bad as they have. But they are not all that ridiculous if you think about it more. Maybe we should have had him years ago. I'm not sure congress could work with him, they're too used to doing the dead opposite of his ideas. Wish there was a way we could "phase in" some of his ideas or something.

McCain seems much better in recent months than in the past. He's certainly likeable. You may not agree with his ideas on defense and Iraq in particular, but he has personal knowledge of these matters. I'm a veteran also and you get a different perspective on those things when you see stuff first hand. The media really gives a lot of false impressions.

I don't see Thompson getting anywhere from here.

I'm lukewarm on Romney. I think he's a descent enough candidate. His ideas are ok enough, not particularly offensive in any way. Pretty good speaker, not captivating like Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan however. He could do well depending who he would run against.

The more I pay attention to Hillary, the less impressed I get. If she's said anything of great substance about Iraq, I missed it. I think she used that issue to get attention and wouldn't know how to deal with it if she won. Se was speaking to women't group about it and said as soon as she got llected, she would have a meeting with her chiefs of staff and ask them what to do.
I hope she has more of an idea than that.

Obama still seems to lack experience, in spite of the US Senate and state senate. I suppose the Democrats will disagree. I'd like to remind a few that feel that way, the Democrats used that trick themselves against Dan Quail who was about 43 and was George H. Bush's running mate. And yes, I hear Obama say that a record of experience isn't necessary, he cited Cheney and Bush as people with envious records that did a lousy job. I guess if I felt I lacked experience, I might say something like that too. I'd prefer a lot of experience unless I see something very special in a candidate to risk our country on.

Wrong me bucko, lots of Baptists drink. They just don't advertise it. After all, the first miracle Jesus performed was turning water into wine.

My sister's second husband is Baptist, he goes to Haiti every other month and develops watersheds, fish ponds and sustainable food for the poor there (unbelievable how malnourished many of the children are BTW, even have kwashiorkor. We visited last weekend and he uncorked a nice bottle of Cabernet.

It says in the Bible not to get drunk with wine (and act a fool), not to avoid wine.

All very true, which is why I was always amazed in the 6 years I was forced to go to baptist church why they preached so much about it being a sin to drink. The difference may be Baptist vs Southern Baptist, which I'm assuming Huckabee is. Southern Baptists have a strict no alcohol policy (not that they all conform though).

Although I agree with you, having spent 10 years in Greenville, SC the home of Bob Jones University and the Buckle of the Bible belt, things are not always that simple. I proposed to someone the same argument about Jesus turning water into wine and was told, "No, it was actually grape juice as it didn't have time to ferment!" So limited transmogrification is OK, I guess. Anyway, it is going to get interesting.

From a recent interview in Boston...

" While Huckabee has lost 110 pounds, never tasted alcohol and never swears... "

"Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to prosper."
-Ben Franklin.

We need a write in nominee. Somebody like Ben Franklin.

How about Jay Leno? At least he is a car guy, and would be amusing to watch give a speech.

Geez, that's the lamest old wives tale ever. "Joneser's" are often the extreme of the extreme.

Look at the verse. Everyone at the wedding is already a little tipsy, so Jesus makes some water into wine. And as the story goes, "Golly, you saved the best for last, when usually everybody brings out the crappy stuff (from the super paraphrased edition)." Now, does that make sense with "grape juice?".

Now, whether you believe we have a creator that can do anything, or whether we all just came from monkeys or whatever... the "story" undeniably refers to wine and not grape juice. Unless people get tipsy from grape juice.

As the only Catholic in a Southern Baptist High School, I argued this again and again. Why would the Bible refer again and again that wine could make you drunk if it was nonalcoholic?

But according to them, Jesus's wine was grape juice, end of story.

Having grown up in the south, most Southern Baptists I knew would just drive across the county line to buy their booze in hopes that no one would see them... In many cases, they drank more than everyone else in town.

Yeah, it was quite clear:

Disappointing, too. Until then, he seemed like the perfect candidate and had my full support. I was also disappointed to see him use the word 'theory' in more of the modern slang rather than follow the scientific definition of it (in science, a theory is more or less a fact; in modern slang a theory is the scientific equivalent of a hypothesis).

I missed the day in science class where it was proclaimed a theory is the same thing as a fact.
