On this Independence Day...

...I wanted to say Happy Fourth of July to you all and share two of the most incredible renditions of the Star Spangled Banner. We do live in a great country. Enjoy!

I see many comments about Liberty on the 4th. Liberty and Freedom. As if they are the same. They are not. Freedom means you are free, not owned, not a slave, not subject to tyrannical government or oppression. Free to come and go as you please.

Liberty is temporary 'permitted' freedom. No different than when a sailor is granted 'liberty' to go ashore. He is not 'free' to keep going - he is granted conditional freedom.

"Liberty?" and justice for all. No thanks, I'll take freedom. Screw the Statute of Liberty, give me the Statue of Freedom, American Re-built.

Other than that, since that is a lofty goal, I like this one -

It is indeed beautiful, but I find myself favoring the traditional cadence and marching band sound of Whitney's performance. It just fits the song.

Marvin is awesome, but I get annoyed when the traditional style (at least that I grew up familiar with iof course) is messed with too much. You start jazzing it up, using electronic beat, etc., and I just don't like it, no matter how beautiful.
