I had the Mogul and Sprint. The worst battery life and the phone would crash often. Even using some of the modified ROM's did not help.

The treo was much more reliable.

If you can get the mogul get it under a new plan so that you can return it within 30 days incase you find the same problems I did.

Isn't it strange who the ad banner on top are advertising the Palm Treos and the banner on the bottom is for ring tones?

Does this site have some sort of bot that looks for words in a thread and matches with sponsors ads?

Today Page 800w versus iPhone 3G

I just reviewed both devices at an Apple and Sprint store respectively and while the iPhone is intersting and has a very nice interface, i am really going to use it for business which means constant calendaring and emailing with some web browsing. I also listen to a lot of streaming radio and the iPhone does not do streaming audio natively like Windows Mobile nor does it give you the capability to have a today page which I use heavily. I would have to click on calendar many times throughout the day to see my next appoint/con call.

Peole pan Windows Mobile but I have found it very nice as I do a lot of record keeping in Excel. The Sprint navigation is very slick so I can sell my copilot software I have for my 700w. I use my phone one handed all the time and that means a tactile keyboard is critical.

My question is will Sprint's EVDO Rev A/Windows mobile browser team be equivalent to the iPhone 3G/Safari team from a download/upload performance point of view. Obviously Safari wins from a zoom in and multi=page point of view.

I also like the external wifi on/off switch on the 800w.

HTC makes great phones. I had an 8525 and was amazing. It only failed because of my own mistreatment. definately easier to type with this one than anything I've ever come across, and the full size touch screen worked great as well. the only complaint is the stylus was a bit awkward and small but the infared feature paired with a downloadable remote control program was awesome for catching Speed tv at the doctors office waiting room.

…which the iPhone does better than any device out there, IMO.

It has Pandora, which is better:

I have been looking forward to the 800w for several months, and after reading all the threads at Treo Central (I recommend you check out this website), I am going to hold off getting it. The 800w has a relatively new screen res (320x320), and many 3rd party apps don't work with it yet. If you like to install lots of new apps to make your phone function better, then wait a bit for app developers to catch up. Also, battery life isn't so good, reportedly.

I would never have an iPhone as I really need a static keyboard.

As an aside, I also have a PDA phone with a slide out keyboard (ppc6700). They seem nice at first, but then it becomes annoying to have to slide out the keyboard for a simple note. So, my advice is to avoid these phones.

In addition to Pandora, the AOL Radio app is also very nice. It has all of AOL's streaming radio stations, plus digital feeds of all of the CBS Radio stations (I've been digging KROQ from L.A. lately). There are also Sirius and XM clients on the way.

Did you look at "list" view in the calendar? That's a nicely laid out "Today"-type screen.

It's not the highest priority for Apple right now, but may be added in the future, it's not something Apple is against:

Apple's Joswiak on iPhone Copy and Paste, GPS Driving Directions - Mac Rumors

I really don't see the need for it though.

The author also asked about David Pogue's suggestion that the iPhone's GPS antenna was too small to accommodate a turn-by-turn navigation application. According to Joswiak, this is untrue. Instead he points to "complicated issues" surrounding driving applications but promises "It will evolve. I think our developers will amaze us." Indeed, TeleNav has already claimed that they are working on this exact product for release in the App Store
Interesting. I have a feeling they've intentionally held back full GPS to offer it as a Apple Store item in future. Tease them with a freebie so they pay for the full goods.

the new iphone blows even worse then then the first.

Initially I had no problems with my iPhone 2.5 G. However when the battery stopped holding a long charge, I sent it in under warranty and they sent back a "new" iphone; this is where the problems started. First of all I couldn't even initiate the phone apple sent me so I had to wait another 5 days to send the "new" phone back and for them to send another one. Then the one I got would not initiate so finally I wasted 3 hours of my time driving to the apple store where I got yet another phone that seemed to work. It worked ok but no where near as good as the first one. The screen would freeze a lot, it would drop calls, miss calls and get voicemails a day later, show I have full service then all of a sudden when I try to call I would have no service.

So I figured it was just a problem with a refurbished phone... then I got the new 3G iPhone. This phone sucks even worse then the 2.5. It drops calls all the time, safari crashes when I'm on ebay, the screen freezes all the time, and the battery length is horrible compared to the first one.

I have found that if you use the phone at a snails pace it works fine. However since I text a great deal and have gotten fast at typing on the phone, the phone has began to do weird things. I wonder if it might be lack of quality control at Apple since there are probably thousands of people running out and buying the iPhone due to the price drop.

Does anyone else have problems like this with their iphone?

and if you switched to at&t when the new iphone came out, then chances are you cannot get the $200 price. Apparently you have to be with at&t for a while. For instance: I switched to att this past september and bought my iphone for 400. when I went to upgrade to the 3g i figured i would get it for 200 with a 2 year contract. WRONG. you have to pay full retail (400).

However I will say that i sold my 2.5 g iphone on Ebay for $300 to someone in Chile, so I guess it doesn't work out that bad

for sprint, you can get on the sero plan and save a boatload, and get a touch diamond when they come out. I am using a mogul, have full 3g speeds, unlimited data and 450 minutes for only 34.00 OUT THE DOOR!

I am a gadget nut, but I've had built in GPS, touch compatible apps long before the iphone came out. I could think of a lot of other things to spend the $100/mo net difference on!

I heard that Apple recently (within the last week) release a software patch to fix this.
