Jimmy makes for some great TV, and for that, I'm appreciative.

We have to be careful about how we use the term "playing the race card".

When our firm was once accused of being racist because we didn't have any ethnic employees, that's not playing the race card.

When someone says they think somebody else's actions may be motivated by racism, that's not playing the race card.

If someone were to complain they weren't hired by our firm because they are of an ethnic background, that's playing the race card.

When a newspaper rep accused our firm of not purchasing enough ad space in their ethnic newspaper, that's playing the race card.

from the bible, wikipedia

Playing the race card is an idiomatic phrase that refers to the act of bringing the issue of race or racism into a debate, perhaps to obfuscate the matter.

I just don't understand this allegation, and I hear it all the time. It goes something like "why are you so upset about Obama spending so much, when you didn't get upset about Bush's spending"?

I simply do not accept the premise of the question, which is that we (conservatives) did not complain, criticize, or get upset with Bush for the out of control spending and expansion of government (SCHIP, No Child Left Behind, Prescription Drug Plan etc.) (not to mention things like Amnesty for illegals, the Harriet Myers nomination etc). It's a crock! Conservatives were universally opposed to these things, and the spending was our single biggest compaint against Bush.

As someone else said, he was/is not a Conservative.

So, the question is not whether we were upset with Bush for the out of control spending. The question is whether you were upset with Bush for the out of control spending?

And if you were, why are you not absolutely furious with Obama, since his spending makes Bush look like a fiscally responsible President by comparison?

Perhaps this will put it into perspective for you, and it specifically addresses your allegation re government spending:

So yes, Bush was bad at spending, but he doesn't even hold a candle to Obama. To think he has only been in office for 8 months makes one wonder how much worse it will get in the next 3 years and 4 months.

So all of those who think if you don't like Obama's policies, you may or are racist, please consider the following concept.

What if we had a black republican in office who was hard right. Would you be racist if you didn't agree with his policies.

What if Bush had been black.

Please think about this before you make a fool out of yourself next time.

Think for yourself first before you let your liberal friends think for you. Think like an American.

This mentality is so sad for our country and all of you who cheerlead this silly race issue are hurting Obama the most.

A high-ranking politician such as Jimmy Carter should know better than to question whether another politician's actions were racially motivated, unless he has good, substantiated reasons.

High-ranking politician, Representative Joe Wilson, should know better than to call the president a liar during a speech to Congress and the nation. Perhaps such an outburst would be called for to bring attention to something dastardly that otherwise would receive no attention. Although, none come to mind.

Just think, while he was in office we thought that his brother, Billy Carter, was the crazy one!

Crazy? Do you know what a can of Billy Beer is worth. The man was a genious!

Classified ads across America offer Billy Beer by the can or six-pack, ... suckered the news media into covering the sale of a single can for $600. ...

So where were all the angry posts on all the CAR forums? Where were all the protests in the streets? Where were all the insults? You guys can't even go two days without starting a new thread whining about Obama

Think like an American?! How dare you act as if your "thinking" is somehow "more American"! As a matter of fact Stormy, you don't think for yourself anymore than those you accuse! You spew the right wing gospel straight from the limbaugh playbook. I've yet to see you actually post anything intelligent, you just let others post and then you sit there and go "yeah!, Yeah!" in agreement. You're the cheerleader here! Get off your high horse!!!!

actually this thread was about Jimmy Carter until it was sidetracked by post 5...

I think there was only 1 Obama thread started in the past week - I seem to remember more than a few Bush threads back in the days - Larry - are you still around?????? and how many Palin threads were started daily (wonder if all those criticizing her were sexist )

MOPHO - I guess you didn't like my post.

Thinking over half the country is racist just doesn't seem productive or rational.

I don't agree with the liberal point of view, but calling all of you racist is crazy.

Sorry if this is right wing gospel, I just thought it was good sense.

I will go listen to Rush now. Move along.

Don't forget I was talking about Billy Carter in the 1970s. The guy was a few French fries short of a happy meal. Now I see that Jimmy Carter has an analog brain in a digital universe!
My oldest son has a 6 pack of Billy beer that I bought for him (he collected all kinds of strange beers). All I had was a Carter Sandwich . . . peanut butter and bologna!

OK

I will clarify or at least try. What I was attempting to say buying into the hatred spin of a silly political maneuver by some democrats that over half the country is racist just doesn't seem American. Calling all conservatives or those that disagree with Obama racist just doesn't seem like a very American thing to do to me.

Wasn't trying to imply if you like Obama you are not American.

Disagreeing with the other side is very American. Blanketing over half the country as racist...Unamerican.

Having different points of view and expressing them publicly...very American and healthy.

Sorry if I wasn't more clear.
