I thought I read (but cannot find it right now) that he admitted that that sound was fake, and the car was some sort of sedan and that he speeded up the film.

I might be wrong..I have been wrong before.

No. The rumor was that Lelouch used his Ferrari 275GTB and that a F1 driver was involved. Lelouch never said anything, but kept mum. Eventually it came out that he drove his own Mercedes with a gymbal mounted film camera on the front bumper and then later dubbed over the soundtrack from his Ferrari.

Nothing on the film was faked. It is real speed as shot. There is a website that catalogs the distances via googlemaps and GPS and calculates the actual speeds. Top speed was not that impressive, but what was impressive is the decisions the driver makes, the redlights, the running up on the sidewalk, etc. A great bit of film history.

I know WAYYYY too much about this subject. But then I have seen this over 3000 times.

Hmmm... 3000 times... at 9 minutes per viewing = 27,000 minutes... or about 450 hours... or about 19 days...

Now what were we saying?

Cheers,

That's hilarious, I did the same calculations, but with 8.5 min per viewing. I was going to post it, but thought no one else would be interested or humored.

We played it continuously at the LA autoshow for 11 days. Then SEMA for 4 days each time for three years. PRI for one year.

Back in the day, I sold thousands of the DVD. Funny... I never got tired of watching it. I still enjoy it.

Randy, I bow to your expertise. I obviously was wrong the "speeded up the film statement". Nice to know that at least that part was real.

I bought several copies at Watkins Glen a few years back...and gave them to my friends.

We played that a lot on our projector system...but not 1/100 of what you did.

80s? China Beach. MASH. St Elsewhere. Hill Street Blues. Cheers. Newhart.

90s? I would say Twin Peaks. Larry Sanders Show. Seinfield.

2000-2009? Sopranos. Deadwood. John from Cincinnati. Carnivale.

Now, maybe LOST for serious and The Office for comedy. The Wire. True Blood. Big Love.

Sopranos could indeed rank 1st overall for me.

True Blood is wild - each week, it seems to be getting more and more out there !

Good on you for mentioning The Larry Sanders Show - that was really a groundbreaking show in a few ways, and unless I'm mistaken it was the start of HBO's breakout move of producing their own content - before then, they were just running movies. Totally changed the direction of cable TV. Also, I think Gary Shandling is brilliant.
