the D-21..
you can see the scaled mock ups of all 3 of thoose you mention hanging in Langley - should ever have the opportunity to wander into the escalator lobby of the new building. since they were the "client" for all 3 of thoose projects. pretty cool stuff in the in house museums / exhibition there too.

I had the pleasure of working at Pratt & Whitney Military and Space Systems Division in West Palm Beach, in the Summer of 1989 as a student engineer. One of my projects was to redesign an afterburner ring on the J58 engine that powered the SR-71. As far as I know, it went into production for a short while before they canned the Blackbirds...
I saw some neat sh!t there for the 4 years that I co-oped as a student engineer. Had a Secret clearance and worked on prototypes of what became the engines for the F22 Raptor, and other advanced technologies. I saw them fire up some engines on the test stand. You could hear it through the swamps for miles. |

+1 for Sports Night.
Lasted two seasons and is available on 3-disc set. Once they ditched the laugh track after the first few episodes it became a great series. So witty. And I think there is a Blackbird on display at the Air Force museum at Robins Air Force base is Warner Robins, Georgia (and free admission). |

Hmm I think you're a little off on the fanbase. Like by several million lol. But the series was pretty awesome and never should have been cancelled. The movie was sweet too.

I was just at the US Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB last week ! Amazing museum. One of the tour guide people said that some people spend 4 or more days there, trying to see everything. I only had a few hours, so I couldn't linger in any one place, there is just so much to see. Yeah no armaments, SR stands for surveillance and reconnaisance, and I think it's defensive capabilities were it's speed and service altitude. I don't think it even bothered with things like chaff or electronic countermeasures (all of which would have added weight).
