Tom Leykis, Adam Carolla, Danny Bonaduce all canned!

For those of you in Southern California who listen to 97.1 and Tom Leykis, Adam Carolla and Danny Bonaduce, apparently they've all been let go from CBS and KLSX is going to a top 40 format.

Talk KLSX/97.1 FM will flip to a new Top 40 format called "AMP RADIO" at 5 p.m. Friday, CBS announced Wednesday.
Current talk show hosts Adam Carolla, the team of Frosty, Heidi & Frank, and Tom Leykis will do their final shows live Friday, with Leykis tossing the switch at 5 p.m. to "AMP RADIO," which will begin with 10,000 songs in a row with limited commercial interruption "or about 28 days of just full-on music," according to Dan Weiner, senior vice president and market manager for CBS radio in Los Angeles.
The format, described as playing "all the hits," will also be online at ampradio.com. Artists will include Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Rihanna, T.I., Kanye West, Usher, Britney, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and Katy Perry, among others.
Running "AMP RADIO" will be Kevin Weatherly, who also programs KROQ-FM and JACK-FM.
"Complementing the station will be an array of events and concerts, an extensive online destination with blogs, music videos, widgets, photo galleries, celebrity gossip reports, in-depth artist pages, an embeddable and multifunctional streaming player, and a platform to create artist-centric radio stations," the CBS announcement said.
While CBS' JACK and KROQ stations target male listeners, "AMP RADIO" will target women 18-49. Competitors would be KIIS-FM, KOST-FM and KBIG-FM (104.3MYfm).
While Carolla, Leykis, Heidi-Frosty-Frank are leaving CBS, there was no immediate word on their future plans. A CBS spokeswoman declined to comment on contracts other than to say "they are all different."
No word yet on who will be part of the new lineup after the first 28 days. The format has been in test mode on JACK-FM's HD2 channel. Current KLSX Programming Director Jack Silver is leaving CBS, a company spokeswoman said.

I listened to Leykis after Stern til I switched to satellite. Unfortunately there were no new topics with Leykis, it was all the same day after day "try to get laid for free", but he did have an audience. I don't miss it one bit.

I'll really miss FH&F if this is true . Leykis was also a good laugh, although he was becoming stale with repetative topics.

What doesn't make sense is that Leykis was saying he was doing a 3-5PM slot Thursday, and not Friday as the release states. FH&F were also talking about a special show on Friday, but also discussing next Wednesday. I hope someone else picks up FH&F & Carolla as well. I think Carolla has done a pretty decent job filling in Sterns slot.

I think Carolla does a great job in the morning. Leykis changed his tune in the last few months. He was doing more shows about politics and the economy, and less shows about how to "pump `em and dump `em for less than $40 bucks".

Wow, so much for 97.1.. I guess I won't be listening to that station anymore. Big lost for CBS radio.. that was the only station I would listen to while driving too.

FM talk radio format all talked out? KLSX-FM (97.1) going top 40 Friday [UPDATED] | Pop & Hiss | Los Angeles Times

He may be #1, but to a crowd deemed less desirable to the advertisers apparently.

It's in the LA Times as well. That would be one hell of a hoax.

I liked listening to 97.1 but hated all the freakin' commercials! The commercials were like 5 minutes long!

Exactly. Radio has been dying a slow, painful death over the last 10 - 15 years. This just adds to it.

as long as KROQ and KPWR don't get reformatted to Top 40, I'll be happy. But then again, I haven't really listened to radio in a long time.

As long as Petros and Money don't get taken off KLAC, I really don't care what happens to the other shows.

Its true....

I listen to corolla every morning. According to him it costs CBS less money to pay off their contracts, write it off as a loss for 08 and change to top 40 where u don't have to hire expensive talent. This despite the fact that Corolla is top 10 if not top 5 in just about every market he's in. It just how the economy is right now. CBS needs to maximize profits and they think they can get more out of top 40.

Don't know about the others but since corolla got paid for the year, has other projects and likes his audience he is going to podcast from his house.

I listen to Corolla on the way to work and Lykis home. Music has no meaning in the Elise, so guess I will be alone with my thoughts and the stage II (or, god forbid, tune to NPR).

Might as well pull the radio out of my car at this point to save the 4.723 lbs. (I made that up, don't actually know the weight of the radio)

According to Tom Leykis, CBS just gave him (last year) a 4 year, no cut contract. This means that CBS pays Leykis until 2012. I'm sure CBS has other plans for Leykis, unless they feel like paying him to do nothing for the next 3 years.
