Warning...another stupid driving trick!
Beware of untrained, stupid drivers!
After being chased out of the Supercar Sunday show, I thought I'd try some relaxing Mulholland twisties drive. I followed a pack of "pocket rocket" bikes at an easy speed and pace around some nice sweeping curves and I noticed a blue Viper closing in rapidly behind. In a minute, the Viper was tailgating (my pet peeve) so I turned on my flasher for a moment and the Viper driver got the hint and backed off. At the stop sign, we all went our own ways. Now I'm closing on a black garden variety Honda sedan, so I backed off about six car lengths behind him. He was driving very slowly, using the brakes unnecessarily at every curve. Surely he knows there is a sports car behind him and he will find the next turnout and let me pass. In about a half mile, he moved over into a turnout and (OMG) turns a U-turn directly in front of me!! I hit the brakes and blasted the horn! Thank god Porsche brakes and great, my reactions are still pretty good and I didn't accelerate to pass or I would have broadsided the Honda at speed! WHAT A TOTAL IDIOT!! Obviously he didn't look at his rear mirror at all!So, if you are following a slow car in front of you, DON'T TAILGATE! Leave him plenty room for his stupid manuevers. He might do a U-turn right in front of you!!![]() That was an another close call brought to you by stupid drivers! ![]() --Hal

Wait till you are on a motorcycle and someone pulls the u-turn.
Glad you were a patient driver and avoided the accident. I have to admit, when someone pulls a stupid move it really makes me mad.

If you would have been tailgating you might have actually been able to get by them during the U-turn phase!
But yes I had a women do this to me, she made an abrupt U turn from the right lane of a 2 lane each direction road. I honked my horn, which is extremely rare for me, and she actually looked at me and flipped me off ![]() EDIT: mandatory "GTFO with your P-car stories!" ![]()

Grrr, stupid people behind the wheel of a car is never a good idea. It seems that every single time I drive my GT3 some dumbass nearly kills me gawking at my car...
usually I slow down and let them go, and if that doesn't work I drop a few gears and floor it to get away from them.

Glad it turned out ok.
Whenever someone is doing something like braking without reason, it means there's more stupid stuff where that came from, so give them a wide berth. Although pulling a U-turn in front of you is unexpected even if you are expecting stupidity!

+1 a buddy of mine in high school had this happen to him...he was in the hospital for a cpl weeks, and in all sorts of casts for a cpl months.
The funny part (for his friends at least) was that he was a mormon, and coming from a church service to school (like he did every morning.) We told him that God didn't favor his religion. He was able to laugh it off though. Amazingly nice guy, we got in trouble a lot together. ahh memory lane. hahahaha Glad you didn't slam into that dirty u-turner.

I'll make another suggestion. When you get a chance, you jump them. That way they're behind you and you don't have to worry about them doing any stupid sh*t.

Inappropriate brake usage is my trigger.
I back way off if it is a single lane, or I get past them ASAP on a dual carriageway. The first time...I think..cops, 2nd time...oops! got a DWD here, need to clear them. m |

Eh, I'll add to the rant today. I was up in the mountains last month. I was behind some pos geo or something who was riding the breaks the entire mountain. They were going about 15 in a 35. The cars were piling up behind us. I am doing my best to stay calm and not curse them. BUT THEY WOULD NOT PULL OVER. Don't they read the signs? Anyways, here is the kicker. Around a bend in the road, there was a fork. The right fork went into a parking lot and had a mountain overlook. The left fork continued down the road. The geo took the right fork, thinking it was the road continuing (obviously not reading ANY posted signs), AND ALMOST DROVE OVER A CLIFF (the lookout)!!!!! Thank god no one was actually parked there or observing the scenery! They stopped, literally, about a foot from the fencing. Idiots.
At least i got to drive at a normal pace afterward. ![]() |

About two weeks ago I was commuting on Marina Blvd in SF having just come off the Golden Gate bridge. Ahead of me was a blue Chevy Cobalt, probably a rental, since US cars are rare sightings in these parts. Marina boulevard has a traffic light or the largest stop signs on the planet at each intersection.
The Cobalt first rolled through one of the stops without slowing down or applying brakes--I figured it was a tourist thing. Then it rolled through the next stop sign--I figured it was a gray hair thing and was curious to catch a glimpse of the occupants. Then it rolled through the red light at the next intersection. By this time I just wanted to stay back and as far away form this vehicle as possible. Fortunately, Marina Blvd. is very wide and was lighly travelled at that hour and they weren't speeding--maybe they were enthtralled by the beautiful scenery of SF bay. About a week ago my '55 bright red T-Bird got nailed at Van Ness and Francisco by a nice lady who totaly went through a red light. Fortuantely I was able to stomp on the brakes and slow down enough so that I slid into her rather than her t-boning me. Those old steel bumpers are mighty strong on those old Fords; it should be coming out of the car hospital soon.
