15" & 16" Gunmetal CE28Ns on Arctic Silver

Finally mounted them tonight. I understand some of you are intereted in the 15"/16" setup, so I figure I post some pics.

Rims: 15x7, 16x8, gunmetal CE28Ns, 8-spoke version, offsets 28 front, 35 rear
Tires: Toyo RA-1's, shaved to 4/32nd's, 205/50, 225/50 (Note: I now use 245/45 at the rear)

The 205 RA-1's seem quite wide for a 205 size. On the 7" wide rim, it bulges out quite a bit. The diameter of the 205/50 is also smaller than that of the front OEM tire, maybe about 1 cm shorter.

The suspension is base, set to the lowest setting front and rear.

I know sector111 was going to offer these but it disappeared from their site.

Where did you buy them? How much? No clearance problems? Weights?

Sector 111 was going to offer its own CE28Ns with custom offsets. The ones I got here are off-the-shelf. The only thing that was custom ordered was the color (15" does not come in gunmetal as a standard color). The price is $1,600 including tax. I bought them from the local Scion (Toyota) dealer. Had to wait three months, though.

No clearance problems. I didn't measure how heavy they are, but they should be about 9.1/12.9 lbs according to http://www.wheelweights.net.

IMHO-These are the ultimate wheels. The smallest and lighest by far. I would love to hear your impressions after driving on these. Have you noticed a difference?

I don't use these tires on the street, but I'm going to Laguna Seca next Friday and will try to beat my personal best of 1:50 in my S2000 with the same tires and minor suspension mods. If I can come within 3 seconds of that, I'd be pretty happy. And once I put in and tune a set of aftermarket coilovers, I'm expecting the car to do under 1:50 around LS.

To my understanding is that the Lotus engineers wanted smaller wheels all along for optimal handling and endurance on US roads, but it was one of the few things that they were overruled on (in favor of styling). Awesome find and setup!

So any Scion dealer would have this in silver or black, or would that also need to be special ordered?

I got them from a local Scion (Toyota) dealer because I was there to get oil filters for our car. They happened to carry aftermarket stuff for Scion and Toyota, so I asked if they had Volk rims and they did.

My point is that you can get these Volk rims from any shops that carry them. Some shops charge more than others, so it's always good to do some comparison shopping. Just order with the specs I listed above and here are the color choices:

http://www.rayswheels.co.jp/cgi-bin/...odel=040_CE28N

They do come in black as I have seen them before; rare though.

I'd be curious if you encounter oversteer with the 205's.

Is it possible to run 195/55/15's on the front for street driving? I would think that would be closer to the original diameter, but with some compromise on sidewall.

Regards,
JnC

Going from 175 to 205 is a big jump, so I'll be "expecting" some oversteer tendencies. I'll know how much after a track day.

195/55-15's would be the ideal size, but RA-1 is my tire choice for the track and they don't come in that size. My other option was to go with 17" all around with 205/40-17 and 235/45-17. In this setup, however, the rear tires would be slightly taller than the stock OEM ones. I ultimately chose 15"/16" over 17"/17" setup because of the weight savings.

Two questions:
Which Scion do these wheels fit on?
Can you post the part number of each rim?

I called a couple Scion dealerships and they are worthless when trying to look it up.

I guess I was not being clear. These rims have nothing to do with Scion cars. I just happened to buy them thru a Scion parts department that carries lots of different brands of aftermarket parts. Here's their number if it helps. Ask for Luis Salazar in Parts:

Carson Scion Toyota
(310) 522-2300

No. A silver dollar came with them, but it kept falling off the spoke while I was trying to take pictures, so I replaced it with a dime...
