205/50/16 and 245/40/17 Direzza Z1

Anyone try this combo? They don't have the right tire for the front (205/45/16 or 215/45/16) but they do have a choice of the 235/40/17 or 245/40/17 rear. The front tire has about a half inch larger outer diameter than the stock A048, the rear 245/40/17 is almost dead on. This is a very good tire that's doing well in SCCA street touring classes. Would there be a problem with the 50 profile up front and 40 profile in the rear?

I got some sitting in my garage right now. These tires are VERY reasonably priced.

Do they fit? Specifically is the front too tall? Any pics of a Direzza next to a stock front A048 or AD07 Neova?

direzza size?

so if ordering the dunlop direzza tires for the stock oem rims, you would not get the 225/45/17, but the 245/40/17?

As much as I don't want to say it the Dunlops are very good tires. Who would of guessed them to make a good tire that wasn't insanely priced. Better then the Bridgestone's which is a hard thing to do and in every aspect also.

From what i've read on other forums, these are an excellent auto-x tires since it requires minimal warmup time to reach maximum traction levels. This would be good for auto-x since you spend an entire day for 3 runs and your tires will warm up quickly. However, i haven't heard much feedback from road course duty since i'm concerned the tires could heat up too fast and could get greasy after a few laps.

But, they absolutely rock as a daily driver tire and if you like a tire with stiff sidewalls, these are plenty darn stiff! I've had them on my car for 500 miles for some highway/canyon driving and they grip almost like a R-compound thru the twisties. I only paid $151/each thru tirerack for 255/40/17 to give you an idea on how inexpensive these are.

I ended up getting the 205/50/16 and 235/45/17. The tires are .5" taller overall OD in these sizes but at least they are .5" taller equally so there are no ABS/rake issues. I'm very happy with them and the car is 10X more comfortable on the street than with the A048's although the super sharp turning response is reduced. I will say I like the RE-01R's more still though but not for the price difference. Can't comment about autocross though since I don't autocross my car.

no one ever answered this question??

I am getting new rear tires for mine?? I also have the 225/45/17

I do not track or the car. It is only driven on the street and I am looking for a tire that will hopefully go a little more than 9000 miles if that is possible.

dont need wet grip and Im willing to give up just a little in dry grip if the tires will last! They are just bald after only 9000 miles.

What tires should I look at to replace the rears?? size? brand? price?

The Dunlops will last a good 15-18k unless you autox then they will last about one season.

The right rear tire size is 235/45/17 not 225/45/17 or 245/40/17. Do the math

I'm not sure how many miles you have on them but once you get about 600 miles on them, they are fantastic. For the first 300 or so miles they are very unpredictable.

Good to know, I've probably only logged 300 or less. I'm sure the mold compound is still a factor right now.

The stock, non-LSS, tires are 175/55/16 up front and 225/45/17 in the rear. Whatever sizes you get, I think it is best that you a) match the diameter of the new tires and b) the diameter should be close to stock.

Use the tire calculator to figure it out:

Tire size calculator

CosmosMpower got the 205/50/16 (front) and 235/45/17 (rear). The front are 0.5" bigger in diameter than the stock. The rears are 0.3" bigger in diameter. Is that a big deal? Probably not.

Hope that helps.

I think this would be the perfect tire for a 15/16 setup!!

195/55R15 Front (0.2" smaller diameter than stock) $86
225/50R16 Rear (0.1" smaller diameter than stock) $119

Sorry, but I don't understand. Isn't the stock LSS rear tire size 225/45/17?

I'm only asking because I need to get new street tires ASAP and am looking at these Star Specs.

Looks like 205's are the only option for the front?

Since you can't get a 195/50/16 with the Star Spec compound, the next best fit is 205/50/16. These tires are about .5" larger in diameter. To keep the relative size difference constant from front to rear (so the ABS doesn't get confused), you need a rear tire that is also about 0.5" larger in diameter than the stock 225/45/17. The closest is 235/45/17.

Thanks for the education.

I guess they'll throw off my speedometer/odometer a tiny bit but I'll also get a tiny bit better mpg.

Pls confirm that there are no rubbing issues, or spacers required for F 205/50/16 and 245/40/17? Thanks!
