Your fronts may rub but your rears will be fine. I just ordered some Toyo T1R's a few days ago. Lasts 18,000 miles, $135/tire (rears) and I got 245/40/17. Almost same grip as the stock elise tires (added width to make up for the lost grip). Saved money and should do better in the rain and last way longer. I think I'll be happy!

Sorry to be paranoid, but any problems associated with the rubbing? Anything to do to prevent? Thanks.

Cosmos, just to be clear -- you do not have any rubbing at all?

Thanks!

I'm very happy with them and the car is 10X more comfortable on the street than with the A048's although the super sharp turning response is reduced. I will say I like the RE-01R's more still though but not for the price difference. Can't comment about autocross though since I don't autocross my car.

I have the same set up as Cosmos and have had no rubbing. That's with the LSS wheels.

I'm pretty concerned with the wet characteristics too. Up here in the PNW, it does a little of that raining stuff...

Picked up a set of the Direzzas (Z1 Starspec) earlier this week to replace my decaying tires. Hope they're as good as you guys think they are. ;-)

Any new rubbing issues with the Star Specs? I have them on my SLK32 AMG and love them. Am considering for a set for my Elise.

This is the setup I've been running at the track and I have been very impressed with the Star Specs. These are probably the best tire for the money right now.

Haven't had any rubbing issues. Also started leaving the 5mm spacers on that I use with the SSRs for autocross with the stock wheels/starspecs, and still no rubbing issues there either.

Put these on my 07 LSS about 2 months ago before a long road trip.
They made a huge difference in the ride compared to AO48's, the car rides over bumps rather than crashing over them. The road noise decreased by half also. They stick great on the street, maybe a little slower on the turn in.
Haven't been to the track yet, but I think they'll do just fine. The fronts do rub a little on a tight parking type turn, but not enough to wear the liners yet. A GREAT tire for the money

I just thought I would let everyone know that I am very impressed with my Star spec tires. I went with a street set up that also proved to be excellent at the autocross course as well and I have not had any rubbing as of yet. I "upsized" to 18X8.5 rear and 17X7.5 in the front (Rota Torque rims) and I am running the 215/40/17 in the front and 255/35/18 in the rear. The combination looks great and it was good enough to win fastest time of the day at the first local autocross event by 1/2 a second. My car is a high power turbo, so the additional tire width outweighs the penalty of any weight gain. Anyway, here are some pictures. I am very happy with them. My car still pushes a little if I come into a corner too hot, so I am going to be looking at taking the shims out in front in order to add additional negative camber as the front tires look pretty straight up and down right now. However, overall the car performed very well and I think it really looks mean now. I currently have the stock non track pack suspension. Name: Elise pics 002.jpg

Just wondering what offset you are running on the Torque wheels front and rear. I have been thinking about a similar setup but have been concerned about rubbing issues with the larger tires.

Having read the posts and done the math, it looks like Cosmos' solution of 205/50/16 up front and 235/45/17 rear best preserves the correct f/r stagger in terms of width and maintains the best possible adherence to rolling circumference. Best of all, it cuts my tire bill to less than half with apparently zero sacrifice to performance.

I did the math on the rake and the losses are insignificant. Going to this setup from the *ahem* TOURING suspension, there is only 1.25mm of rake lost and from the LSS package only .5mm of rake loss. Considering the amount of rake is only 10mm to begin with, maybe that's more significant than I think, but I doubt anybody's car is going to suddenly be rendered a kite (a la Mercedes at Le Mans in '99).

BTW, I just received my new Rota Torque rims (16x7, 17x8) and neither the front or rears have those stupid superfluous extra holes! (and yes they are the correct rims w/ the correct offsets for the Elise/Exige).

Bought them from A Spec wheels on ebay, $549. Haven't installed them yet, just put on a new set of AD07's on my stock rears, because I still have more than half of my fronts left. Went through the first set of rears in only 10 weeks, 10k miles. They were slicks when I took them off.

Whoa, i drive my car in SF and those 17/18's made me wince becuase that thin sidewall looks like it's ready for a rim busting... (i've got an LSS right rear that's slightly bent at the outside lip which fortunately and surprisingly doesn't affect the feel) and I've got a pair of the rota 15/16's i'm excited to throw on for some extra comfort once i get a track day on them... probably part of it is that i've got the LSS suspension so bumps hit harder on my car so 17/18's just seem begging for damage around here.

205/50-16 Dunlop Z1 Star Spec Tire

Can anyone running this tire please tell me what offset wheel you are using and the car's height? I have a set of wheels with large offsets that push the tires out pretty far, and I'm concerned that the additional height is going to hit the fender.

A year after this thread started, I still find that this size combo is still the only option... with the tires I would concider anyway...

If anyone is interested in buying a set of these Dunlops, let me know. I have some coupons for $20 off per tire. I will not be using these and the coupons expire at the end of this year.
