The RS 42 is the blue street biased pad - i am on my second set of RS 14 fronts and haven't noticed and abnormal rotor wear..

Their racing pad is the RS14 which I believe is orange.

RS42 blue
RS42 dark blue

i think there was a typo or two there...
for our application there are two viable options; the blue RS42 which is a sport pad and the black RS14 track specific. there are a bunch of other compounds but i've chosen to exclude them from my understanding of this brand's offering. i actually wrote up a cheat sheet on the various pads from porterfield, ebc, ferodo, hawk, pbc, etc in order to have a go-to reference in the future.

I have to get another track day on the Hawks before I can say yeah or nah. The was a couple time I went in deep think "oh sh*t" but they held up. I kep thinking they did not have the "feed back" of the stock pads. I only "smelled" them once. That may not be a great sign to smell your brake bads but at least with the stock bads when I smelled them I knew they were working.

RS421 Black/dark blue - OE replacement. I like them on my BMW street car.
RS42 Blue - Sport pad (U1587 front U1682 rear). I liked them. Worked just fine on the track. Wish it had a little more initial bite.
RS44 Orage - heard mixed review... I've never used them on any of my cars.
RS14 Black - Race pad w/ good level friction for Elise (U2593 and U1587 front and U1682 rear). U2593 is the correct size. U1587 has slightly less surface area but works just fine. Love the level of initial bite. Haven't been noisy on the street... only sometimes... more than acceptable for street use.
RS15 Grey - I've never used them. I hear it may have too much friction for Elise.

Just stay away from Ferodo DS3000. Elise won't generate enough heat to get them in proper working temp.

here's a picture of the street biased (darker blue) sports pad

http://www.braketechnology.com/sport.html

the RS 4-2 is more of a gulf blue or mexico blue color. Lighter. Imagine baby blue. It is described as a streetable track pad

The darker blue sports pad IS NOT the RS42. It is not considered a track pad.

The RS 14 is black. It is the same as the Lotus Motorsports Pad. It is track biased.

There is no RS14 orange. It is a typo. The orange is RS 4-4

Having gone through it myself, I can understand your frustration. However, just because people on this board are confused doesn't mean that Pagid doesn't have their kaka right

Post 127 has the correct part numbers.

Front:
U2593 if you're using RS 14
U1587 if you're using RS 4-2

Back:
U1682 for either RS 14 or RS 4-2

If Pagid eventually makes part no. U2593 for the RS 4-2, then I'm sure everyone will be using that pad, but for now, the U1587 will do.

Hopefully this will eliminate any confusion. I'll go ahead and post this on the Pagid thread also.

Here is a picture of the RS 42 #U1587 on my fronts - you can decide what to call the colour

Slide in the new pads

Edit: And a pic of the RS42 #1682s on the rear

'Real-World Choices' are pretty simple for Elise/Exige: Black or Blue

Black = Definitely some noise on street, superb track pad with mucho friction
Blues (RS4-2) = Nice street pad that can easily be used on track

The blues are very close to the RS44 Oranges, btw - interchangeable I've heard.
In fact, Pagid has sent me the Blues when I asked for the Oranges......

I have to chime in. I put on the Porterfield S pads a couple of months ago. 3 track days later they faded badly. Turned out the rotors were eaten enough to require replacement. I installed the Lotus "Race" pads, the Pagid RS-14, per Matt Beckers recommendation. He called the Porterfields "disconcerting". I don't like to put down any product, but the Porterfields are poor performers, about dangerous, and way expensive when rotors are replaced.

Porterfield R4S can't be compared to Pagid RS14 since the R4s is a street pad and they don't belong on the track. I use the R4 and they almost perfectly immitate OEM performance in every type of driving, but I do get an occassional squeel when they are cold. They do dust less than OEM. I still prefer OEM since my R4 pads feel a slight bit numb to modulation inputs in comparison. I think these are great pads but I allso think OEM is better. I imagine if Lotus specs the Pagids that they are better still, but I haven't tried them.

I'd like to buy the blacks specifically for the track. Just go to your website?

I recently put the Pagid Blues on my car. I had the opportunity to run them at VIR last week and an autocross last weekend and I am very happy so far. They never faded at VIR during the 30 minute sessions which involved some heavy braking in a couple areas. They have good initial bite on the street too and do not have any noise issues. Overall, the only downside I can see is price.

P.S.

Pagid at times (including the shipment I just received) sends me the 1587 in lieu of the 2593 for fronts in RS14 blacks - they fit perfectly fine and are 99% identical to the 2593.
