I'm pretty sure our cars came from the factory with DOT 4, the Owner's Manual says to use DOT 4 brake fluid. You should certainly not consider using DOT 3 fluid, despite what someone said.

Iv been using the ATE 200 alternating blue then gold just for the reason you stated. You get a really clear indication with color change.

Motul RBF600, hands down. Relatively reasonably priced, perfect for a Lotus.
