Hawk HT-10 race pad review thread

Just like the DBA 4000s, we would like to get some feedback on the HT-10 race pads.

Thanks for your input!

I like them, but have had a few sets crack and fall apart.

I've used a set for the last 3 track days. The bite is similar to the Raybestos ST42s. They may ware better than the 42s but what I don't like is they seen to get some brake judder and pad transfer when hot. I will go back to the ST42s no bedding, or judder and easy to modulate, less drama but harder on the rotors. Like so many things in life it's always a trade off.carl

Did you start using the HT-10s on an old rotor or new rotor?

I'm on my second set of HT-10s. When I put on my first set I switched to new UltraDiscs from Sector111; it felt like a significant improvement in initial bite and overall stopping power from the Pagid Blues I was previously using with the stock rotors. I'm on the second set now... for some reason the fronts on this set squeal terribly under hard braking on the first lap or two until they get up to temperature, after that they're fine. They also seem to wear a bit more slowly than the Pagid Blues...

On the street, they make more noise than the Pagid Blues... slight squeaking just from rolling friction, and occasionally a bit more squeal under medium braking, especially when cold. Not enough to complain about for me.

You are probably experiencing some pad transfer issues when you put in the new pads on old rotors. Did you really have a chance to beat on them to try to get rid of the old material and bed in the new pads?

As far as the street, the HT-10 is not designed to be a compromise pad like the Blue, so they will make noise etc.

Are you in a warm climate?

I didn't get as much chance to beat on them before taking them to the track as I'd like (I did drive >500 miles on them to get to the track though). I did beat on them quite a bit at the track: two days at Infineon Raceway (around 3 hours of track time). They still squealed for the first 5 or so hard braking zones even to the last session.

Do you recommend cleaning the rotors with brake cleaner when changing pads?

Yes, I live in a warm climate (SoCal).

Have had them on my car for two track days, put them on my original rotors. So far very happy, previous track pad experience were with the Portertfield R4S and R4S, both pads were easy on rotors but again on a 2000LB car..

I personally think that for a full race pad these are very nice, good modulation, good initial bite. What is even more impressive is that they actually stop the car pretty well when not up to temp. That being said, I am conscious that they do need to warm up, so leave some room when on the street. There is some noise on the street occasionally when I come to a stop, however that is not an issue with me as this is mostly a track car, however driven to the track. Have three track days in the next two weeks so will report further. I do live in a warm climate.

Any updates?

We also have some anti-squeal shims for the front for those who want less noise on the street.
