New AD07s

So as I've shown on some other threads, my AD07s are all done after 6000 miles. some autocross, some track, and a lot of canyons...

I've just got off the phone from South Bay lotus, and they are telling me that I'm looking at 1000 a set... Has anyone else bought AD07s yet? how does that compare?

Steve

You can order your tires from Shinoo at Sector111. Should be a bit cheaper and you'll be supporting an enthusiast.

Steve,

We've got them in stock. I can send them out straight away. Our prices are the same as TireRack - unless you use your 5% discount coupon (et2004)...

if your AD07s laqsted only 6,000 miles, why not buy A048s and see how long they last? They should fit just fine in the standard wheels? no?

The AO48s are fine on the standard rim. But there is NO WAY Steve will get more than 3K out of them if he burned up a set of AD07s in 6K. That track use must be brutal on them. I have 10K and three autoxs on my AD07s and there's a lot of life left still. I expect to go to 20K on them now, especially since they'll be street only (Hoosiers and AO48s for the track).

Yeah. My tire use is a little brutal. I do a lot of canyon driving as well as autocross and now one track day. I'm not sure how well the car will work with standard shocks and sports suspension tires. you may be able to reach the bumpstops in cornering.

Dan ( eliseowner2b) has been running a standard suspension car with A048s for some time now without any ill effects, and I myself just bought a set of SSRs with A048s and I'm going to do the same.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we "supposed" to use AD07 LTS and A048 LTS. Something about compounds due to the light weight of the Elise? if that's the case, then are the tire rack tires the right ones?

The MH labeled A048's that Tire Rack has are equivalent to the LTS labeled tires.

It's possible we might see a stickier compound version in the not too distant future for solo2 & track day nuts...

Hi

May I know what variation of a048s are there and how does one tell the difference? Does it say MH on the tirewall? and what compund is the default a048? (if there is such a thing)

Many thanks.

The A048's that come on our cars from the factory say LTS. These are also available through the dealerships as replacement parts.

The standard A048's that you can buy through TireRack or other tire shops say MH on the side. I'm told these are virtually identical to the LTS compound.

There are two other compounds available only in Japan, M and S.

Yokohama is currently looking at bringing the M compound into the US market.
I don't know when it will happen, or if it will happen for sure.
I've tested them, and I like them alot. They offer just a touch more grip than the MH and LTS compound, and seem to function best within a slightly colder temp range.
