Count- thanks for the feedback. Is the .5 sec, when you were running the RA-1? When you factor in the lack of LSD on your car, that is very good driving, on street tires.

Craig- I've heard that about the T1R , they also go on to say after 500-1000 mile they get pretty good.

I'm running hard to find sizes on the MR2, would have been either the T1R or R1R, now that they finally release the other size I needed, it'll be the R1R.

R1R's fit LSS wheels?

Just to triple check before I pull the trigger

Yes - 0.5s comparison is Hoosiers vs RA-1s. Another thing to keep in mind is that I also ran these tires the previous day at Buttonwillow for 30 minute sessions in over 100F heat with minimal overheating issues. They were not as grippy as my nearly bald RA-1s (according to DL-1 logs) but I made up by driving better

Just a data point: I placed 3rd in a recent Redline Time Attack event with a set of R1R's on a otherwise stock Elise. They aren't as sticky as the Hankook C50s I usually use on the track, but I ran in the street tire class so I needed a treadwear rating of 140+ to compete. I think Manly out on the other coast has also won a couple of these Redline events with the same setup.

p.s. Thanks Joe at TireShoppe

This is a reply to an older thread (found it using search), but does anyone know if the 205/45R16 front and 235/40R17 combo works for the R888's as well as the R1R's, for a non-sport package Elise?

Not so sure about the accuracy of the info from this other site:

By non-sport pack Elise, are you talking about the wheel sizes ? If so, even the 195/50/16 is too wide for it (LSS front sizes). Much less a 205/45/16. Stock, non-sport pack are 175/55/16 up front and 225/45/17 in back.

Yes, I'm talking about the wheel size. When you say even the standard 195/55R16 front 225/45R17 rear combo for a LSS package "is too wide," why does Lotus us that combo? Also isn't the tire slightly smaller since the sidewall is 45 vs. 55 (front) and 40 vs. 55 (rear)?

What people have chosen for the tire sizes for the R888's are all over the place and I can't figure out what combo works.

The sport pack, uses a wider wheel then the stock wheels. Which is why a 195/50/16, tire is fine. However that tire size is too wide for the stock (non-sport pack) wheels.

Here is a little write up about the sizing of tires:

Tire Tech Information - Calculating Tire Dimensions

Width x Aspect Ratio = Section Height
Section Height x 2 = Combined Section Height
Combined Section Height + Wheel Diameter = Tire Diameter

Edit- both the sport and non-sport pack, use the same size rear wheels- tire sizes for both are 225/45/17.

Well, yeah physically you could fit a 195/50/16 tire to the non-sport pack front wheels. It's at the edge of what you could do, the tire would be somewhat pinched. Not ideal but suppose for street use, it ok.

Okay, I'm going to ask a stupid question:

Is there something mechanically that prevents putting the wider tires from a LSS package on a stock Elise? I remember it not being physically possible/desirable. I also recall that there was something with the suspension but I don't remember.

Thanks for pointing out the the rears are the same, though. I totally missed that.

No, you just need a new set of wheels to do so.

A 195/50 WILL fit the base front wheel no problem.
The 205/45….NO.
Do your self a favor and just get new wheels.

Ummm... yeah, that's what I'm trying to do, as I'm trying to figure out the correct size.

If the 205/45R16 doesn't fit the front, how are some people getting this to fit as stated on the first page of this thread? See posts from AdamT and jbr3rd.

Uh, Larry made this painfully clear. They will fit the LSS (sport package) wheel, which is wider than your base package wheel. The people you are referring to were not trying to put them on base wheels, but mounted them on wider LSS wheels.

So, find a set of LSS wheels or something with the same specs. Sector 111 has a wide selection.

Just in case you don’t know this, the standard/base front wheel is 5.5 inches wide. The sport pack/track pack front wheel is 6 inches wide. (some one correct me if my # are wrong)
The 195/50 is the max you should go on a 5.5 wheel.

Look at sector 111 and Blackwatch racing for some good wheels and tire combos.
The standard 5.5 wheel sucks. The wheel looks nice, its just a phucked up size.

For normal driving the 195/50R16 on the front standard wheels will work fine and 225/45R17 on the rear is the same for both. If you drive very hard or use it on the track you can go to the 205/45R16 and new wheels.

LSS Sport Pack/Track Pack front wheels are 16x6.5. Rears in all cases are 17x7.5.

Toyo Tires - Proxes R1R rebate

It ended 10/31. Sent mine in, late Oct... haven't seen it yet. It'll be another week or two before it's late.
