Newbie Q re Track Pack

My understanding is that the adjustable dampers included with the Track Pack have settings of 1-10 (soft-stiff).

Q#1: How does the softest setting (1) compare to the standard Elise suspension (softer/stiffer) and how does the hardest setting (10) compare to the Sport Pack suspension?

Q#2: My understanding is that the ltd. slip diff. creates understeer (correct/why?) and that this can be dialed out with the Track Pack, presumably by adjusting the roll stiffness with the front adjustable bar. (Reduce understeer by softening the front bar relative to the rear.) Correct?

Thanks, Andy

And, apologies if this has already been "asked and answered."

Well, now I know why no one has responded: I visited Park Place in Seattle today and they just received their very first Track Pack car and even they didn't know anything about the option. (They claim to be the largest U.S. Lotus dealer -- anyone know if that's true?) Anyway, they were nice enough to put it on a lift so I could see the adjustment points and they learned something themselves. (Now I wish I'd taken some pictures.)

I intend to contact Bilstein about the shock valving and if I learn anything interesting I'll follow up my own post again.http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/imag...lies/smile.gif

Anyone know what the adjustable shocks will cost and when they will be available?

HRM recently posted the recommended track pack settings for street and track.

Talked to Clyde

So, I talked to Clyde Shepard at Lotus USA today about the Track Pack and LSD. Here is what he had to say:

1. Track Pack: With the dampers set to the recommended street settings of 2/3, they approximate the stiffness of the base car. However, since it uses the same springs as the Sport Pack (no change in spring rates), the ride quality is not quite as good. With the damper valving set to 7/8, the recommended track settings, it is stiffer than Sport Pack.

2. LSD: He agrees completely with the prior posting of Nick Adams, Exige Development Manager, which I read to him over the phone. In particular, Clyde says the LSD makes the steering "heavy and numb," (relatively speaking, of course) LSD is for autocrossing, not for the track.

So, now I'm in the market for a Track Pack car w/o LSD. Laser Blue??

I'm reviving an old thread for some clarification. For those of you with the track pack, what settings are you using on the adjustable dampers for street and what settings are you using for autocross? Is changing the setting as easy as rotating the numbered dial?

Wow, until I looked at the dates, I got excited because I thought Clyde was back.

Mine are at 2/3, but I want to take them up to 6/7 to see what difference they have. I would like to know if it's just done by taking the wheel off and turning the knob by hand.

I ran 2/3 on the street. It was defintely more compliant than 7/8 on the track. However, 7/8 is teeth chattering on the street only rarely. It is generally fine on the street.

No need to take the wheel off - just reach around it and count the clicks.

Don't even have to count the clicks and guess at the direction to turn. With a tiny bit of effort you can see the numbers.

PS - Wheels/tires on car w/o hub rings.
