Ti Gun Metal LSS Wheels

Hello everyone,

Just finished the custom powder coat on my LSS wheels in Ti Gun Metal (matte) finish. I know many of you guys are thinking of doing it in Gun Metal instead of the boring and play-out black finish.

Yeah, I even powder coat the factory lug nuts to match

Cheers,

Oh...so beautiful.
I am expecting my CO elise on the 14th........will have to give her wheels that treatment.
Do you know the make and color number of the powder? Did you have the wheels sand blasted prior to coating or just degreased....and one last thing, did you have the inside, where the tire bead contacts coated asa well?

Guys, thanks for all the kind words.

I think all powder coat shops do sand blast your wheels to remove the original finish before they spray the new color on it. I didn't take a pic of the wheels without tires, but the entire wheel is powder coated the same color

I don't know the brand or the color code of the color I choose, I just picked it from the color chat available at my local powder coat shop. Just pick a matte Gun Metal/metallic black/anthracite and it should has similar result. Remember to powder coat the factory lug nuts too

By the way, anyone local in So Cal interested in powder coat anything, I can hook you up. Just PM me.

Turned out real nice. What is the typical cost of having this done?

I think all powder coat shops vary on price. Check around for best price/quality. I would say $80-$100 each wheel. I know Lotus dealer charges more and mostly only would do black color for customers (less risk)

I m really satisfy the way it turns out too

I m not a powder coat experts, but I think these finishes will last forever assuming you taking care of them appropriately. I think powder coat holds up quite good against minor scratch too. I would say powder coat should outlast the factory paint.

Many outdoor furnitures are finished in powder coat and they look fine after many years except for the rust, well the LSS wheels do not rust thank god!

anyone have long term experience with powdercoat finishes? I have the original anodized LSS wheels so I don't have to worry about the factory paint finish chipping.

Looks good. Have you thought about powder coating the gas cap cover as well?

Properly preped power coat is about the most durable finish going. I have had powder coated parts bend and break before the coating cracked or chipped off. Just have to watch, brake fluid will damage it.....likw any other finish.

powdercoat looks like a matte finish. If someone wanted a slightly glossy look (like a clear coated paint), is that possible with powdercoating?

I am not sure, I am debating if I should do anodize on the fuel door and rear diffuser.

Anyone has some inputs

I guessed powder coat is very durable then.......

Powdercoat can be glossy too, in fact most people choose to have it in glossy look, but I opt for the matte look for more aggressiveness (IMO)

Most aftermarket wheels are powdercoated. Like all RAYS/VOLK Racing wheels are powdercoated and many of them are glossy.

Looks great - much better than straight black in my opinion.

I agree 100%. Not a fan of the matte black, aka brake dust look.

The wheels look great! I'm debating between getting my LSS wheels powdercoated black or graphite grey. Any photoshop experts out there that can change the chrome orange to starlight black?

I think gun metallic colored wheels will look equally good on black Elise too. My friend and I just powdercoat our LSS wheels at the same time, and of course the same color. He has a black Elise, let me take some pics of his car when i see him next time and I will post them up here for your reference.

This is a recent photo of us at Streets of Willow, before we got our wheels powdercoated.
