Tire choices for stock (non-LSS) dry weekend driving
I may be acquiring an Elise with the stock 16x5.5 and 17x6.5 wheels with worn out AD07s. Most of the chatter on the board seems to be about tires on LSS wheels, track tires, tires for Florida rain, or daily drivers. Most of that isn't relevant to my plans, which are: spirited dry drives in the twisties, occasional commutes, and maybe a few trips to the track. If track days become important, I would get a set of dedicated wheels and tires. I don't plan to log a lot of miles a year because I have another daily driver.
What matters to me: fits stock wheels without rubbing or handling/speedometer issues, ride not punishing, not too noisy, really good dry grip, good balance, lifetime > 10,000 miles. Oh yeah, price. What doesn't matter to me: ultimate lap times, rain, cold, having the biggest donuts on the block. So options which seem relevant are: Stock AD07s ($$$$), Direzza 195/50-16 & 225/45-17 ($$). How do these or any other options stack up against my requirements? Thanks for constructive advice! |

I run AD07's on standard suspension for weekend twisty service and some fun-type Auto-X and love them. Grip well, noise is not an issue, and they ride well. I get 10K+ on rears and 20K+ on fronts.

Agreed AD07 or AD08s are some of the best choices stock size. You will have to search for your required size but other brands that meet your criteria are listed here - Top grip street and auto-x tires (Exige / Elise)
