Titan vs Nitron steering racks?
I just learned my steering rack has to be replaced for the 2nd time (covered in steering clunk thread Steering Clunk - Revisit)
I don't want to install the same OEM rack for the third time and watch it wear out. Can anybody advise me on the relative merits of the Nitron racks (EliseParts in UK) and the Titan rack (Sector 111) and whether they have been engineered to solve whatever the wear issue is on the OEM rack? ... or come to that does anybody know if the OEM rack has ever been improved? I might still do that if I knew they had been changed for the better. Thanks for any input - car is at the dealer now and I need to get something done! |

I have the Titon rack. Not sure what to say about it my steering does not go clunk anymore. It has a tighter turning radius but not all that noticeable on the street. I have about 500 miles since the install so far so good. Thought I would at least chime in. Sorry I am not full od facts or bs about the racks.
Best

At first I did not notice. Then the other day I made a hard right into a parking spot at very low speed and there was more resistance than the standard rack. But if you are moving better than say 8 mph I don't think you would notice.

Well - if it's a little harder to steer with the quick rack, I can live with that - my wife doesn't drive the car so it's only me that will have to muscle it in to a parking space! Thanks for the comments - as to whether the after market ones wear, I guess only miles will tell - I am at 85k now on my 2005 ... so another two years and I will be feeling for another clunk and hoping not to find anything.
