Brushed Aluminum Stalks

Ever wonder just what those brushed aluminum stalks look like (the ones sold by a couple of shops in the UK)? I had my dealer buy a set and install them. Look better than the standard black plastic ones, I think. There are no markings on them so you just have to remember which one is for the brights/turn signals and which one is for the wipers. I haven't mixed them up yet...

You can also get polished aluminum and black painted ones.

One caveat - you cannot go back since the old ones are cut off with a hacksaw blade and the new ones fit over the stub.

not much shorter - maybe a little - but less obtrusive because of the taper and rounded ends. Parts were $153 + $38 shipping charge from UK. Shop charged 1 hr labor. Probably took less than that but labor seems to only come in one-hour chunks.

Very good looking, and much more "sport" than the black ones.

Man, those look great. They had to cut the old ones off with a saw?! That's pretty crazy. How long and how much was it for shipping(curious)?

The dealer ordered them for me and charged about $20 for shipping. Took maybe 2+ weeks to receive. Probably could get them overnight of you are willing to pay. Check their site.

$20 not bad for overseas. Do you remember whether or not they came with install instructions? Couldn't be that difficult. Thanks for the link JnC

yep. Came with reasonably good install instructions. Could use pictures, though. I still have them somewhere around here.

But I am something of a coward when it comes to masking permanent mods I've never done before. Let's see.... brand new $50,000 Lotus Elise, hacksaw... Elise, hacksaw... Elise, hacksaw... Naah. No thanks. I'll let the professionals do it.

Understandibly. If I decide to do, I'll have to have someone spot me and tell me if my hands are shaking before I start sawing!

You do realize that the "professionals" never did that before either... Your car was their learning experience...

yes, but there is accountability in that they are responsible and liable to do it right.

Right?

AND they are insured.....!! If they screw it up they have to fix it at their cost. If I screw it up my insurance company just laughs.

Brushed Aluminum Stalks

Hello DoctorJ,

Since it was hard to see some of the close-up details of your photo with the new aluminum stalks, would you be so kind as to confirm if the rubber boots coming off the steering column are still used once you installed the new stalks? It appears the black rubber boots are still used, at least for the wiper stalk, but I'd just like to confirm this with you before I go ahead and purchase a set.

Cheers,

Kevin (Python)

Parts from the UK

I am heading to London the first week of September. Where can I pick up these parts? I wonder if there are any other cool parts to find. I am taking an empty bag just to bring home parts. Should be fun!
