If your door opens okay and seals adequately (which can be separately adjusted at the windows) and has a good gap to the rocker, then door fit may be fine. Even if alignment to the clams is not great. Remember that the positioning of the clams can be adjusted quite a bit.

I don't use the door to get out at all. I don't need to! Getting in and out of my elise is easy for me.

I had my drivers door adjusted on the new Elise yesterday at Rothrock. Like you, I do not use it to exit, it just wasn't closing right. I don't know what they did, but it's much better now. Surprisingly they didn't give me a hard time about my breakin period. All five of my top RPM were at about 8700 and there were a few standing starts. Don't know how that happened during breakin coughautoxingcough.

My college roommate had an AMC Gremlin (aptly named). The sheet metal around the striker pins had rusted away, and the pins were just kind of loose, so the doors never really latched properly. And we used to drive it that way!

Over time, it appears that the drivetrain of the Elise has been holding up very well. Thanks Toyota! Maybe that is why the break in data is not a big thing any more. Cuz the cars are doing fine overall. The only stock engine woes that killed a motor or two have been downshift overrevs, which generally are considered driver related and not car related.

My 1st car had a, umm, enthusiastic breakin too. No standing starts, but lots of time at the top of the cams, and that engine/powertrain is flawless at 22K. Those top RPM were all at or close to 8800! As mine was the 2nd car in the country to get the 1000 mile dump (behind Chris in Atlanta, who babied his car like a freakin newborn), I was sweating bullets on that one. But no worries!

I will 2nd Stan: Thanks Toyota! And thank you Lotus for picking that powertrain.

paulhastings - did you ever solve this issue?

I have a similar issue.

Both my doors are slightly out of alignment i.e. they do not close flush.

They both extend out about 1/8 inch when closed - definitely not flush!

Any suggestions anyone?

agreed, sounds like it's time!

You do realize Obama has instituted a new plan to reduce carbon emissions by incentivizing people to trade in their old cars for new ones. However only the Elan or earlier Loti qualify
